I think they could, if they take on some salary and ad a decent pick. Would you include san jose's first we have for one of those two? I would..

What would you give for this package?

What would teams offer for Guerin + SJ #1?

Isles want a D-man under 26, and under control for 3-4 years, with size, defensive ability, and who is a decent skater. Offensive ability is secondary.

or

A two-way center with size, under control for 3-4 years, with legitimate 2nd line potential. Must project better than Frans Nielsen.

The Isles don't need additional draft picks unless in top 15.

The Isles will trade 2nd's or 3rd's, or current prospects *barring Okposo* if necessary to fix value.

The Isles won't trade their '09 #1. They won't trade Mark Streit or Trent Hunter. Everyone else is fair game.

Cheers,

Dan-o

IMO, either of those deals does it.

So one can only think thats where he's going.

He has never made any public statements about where he wants to play. He has certainly not given any indication whatsoever that he wants a trade to Boston.

Jersey makes an awful lot of sense. Boston needs a left handed winger more urgently and I suspect they'll be looking at Tkachuk or Erik Cole to fill that need.

Name me ONE player the calibler of Alzner who has EVER been traded at the deadline for a UFA rental. And adding in a late 1st round DP isn't going to come anywhere close to closing that gap.

Would like to see Guerin playing with the Sedins...would be a good fit.
Isles need a big tough dman.
How about Shane O'Brien and a third round pick for Guerin?

I think Guerin will be a bust wherever he goes. He was terrible in San Jose a couple of years ago as a rental. I would only be willing to give up a conditional pick for him, but I know the competition to make a move on March 4th will probably make some sucker give up a 3rd round pick or better.

Coburn for Zhitnik.

Not that I think the Caps should make the deal, obviously that was a dumb deal for Atlanta.

Guerin isn't getting back a top d prospect, a young player with a top end of 2nd pairing potential is more likely.

Whoever gives up more than a 3rd round pick and a C level prospect for this bum is insane.

One of the worst playoff performing 1st line players of all-time.

Coburn wasn't a top 5 pick. Add in that Coburn struggled for over a year at the NHL level, and at the time of the trade there was at least some concern that he might not develop.

And the way the Coburn traded ended up, as pretty much one of the worst trades over the last 10 years, leads me to believe that it won't be repeated.

Good call on bringing him up though. I hadn't thought up him when I originally posted.

No. If we are just getting a third rounder, no reason to add salary in the deal as well.

How about Shane O'Brien and a third round pick for Guerin?

O'Brien is an impending UFA. Keep him and we'll take the third.

If I'm the Islanders, I take O'Brien if offered and swing him for a mid round pick a few minutes later.

I highly doubt Guerin will only garner a 3rd.

I disagree. I don't think he'll get a lot more than that. MAYBE a 2nd - but that is about it.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Upshall was a guy who hadn't contributed for 4+ years after being drafted, and IMO was seen as a potential 3rd liner at the time of the trade. His value is no where remotely close to where Alzner's is right now.

If Alzner get moved, it would be for a Pronger caliber player, and even then some Caps fans would probably not like the deal.

(And sometimes the guys turns out like Patrick O'Sullivan or Jiri Hudler and everyone else looks stupid.)

Alzner went top 5, and I think he's a "blue-chipper", and those guys don't go in rental deals.
