Edm -Tor / Ott

To Toronto: 3rd round pick 2009, JF Jaques
To Edmonton: Dominic Moore

To Ottawa: Tom Gilbert, Robert Nilsson
To Edmonton: Anton Volchenkov, Chris Neil

Thoughts?

I don't think Volchenkov is available, and if he is, I'd want more than Gilbert or Nilsson.

Both are reasonable trades for both teams

Agree on AV probably not being available - but Gilbert's the puckmoving d-man that the Sens need, and he's signed for something like 5 more years. I'd think that Murray would listen, not sure if he'd do it though.

There's no way that the Ottawa/Edmonton trade is reasonable for the Sens....

JFJ certainly seems like a Burke-type player

Are you kidding? Gilbert gives them a great puckmover that they need, he is top 20 in defensive scoring and he is signed on a great contract for 5 more years. Nilsson gives them more scoring depth which they are in great need for, they are 2nd last in the league in GF I think. This is a trade that will help them for next season.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I added him in there.

Appropriate reaction. Honestly though, I don't think the Sens are as desperate for puck movers as they were to begin the season. Gilbert would be nice to have, but we're probably better off keeping Volchenkov since we have plenty of offensive defencemen in the pipeline relative to defensive studs like AV.

Sens probably don't do this deal, but I don't think the value's too far off.

Edmonton gets hosed but saves a lot of $$$ in the 2nd deal.

1st deal doesn't make sense from a Leaf's perspective.

I think Edmonton may need to give up a bit more on the 2nd trade. Maybe 2nd round pick or something.

how so? The leafs are looking to add prospects/draft picks. Jaques is a Brian Burke type of player and Dominic Moore is very much available on deadline day. How does that not make sense?

For one young player that is worth both of them and Chris Neil. So no.

To say Volchenkov is worth Gilbert AND Nilsson is just crazy. Volchenkov and Gilbert alone are very close in value. Offensively Gilbert is very underrated, He's top 20 in the league in D points.

No, it's not.

Puck movers nowadays are a dime a dozen. Well, not really, but defensive studs like Volchenkov are much harder to come by. If Ottawa was so desperate for puck movers they would have kept Corvo or Mesjaros. Or Redden.

And Nilsson would be a 3rd line player at best in Ottawa.

Losing Volchenkov does not help the senators unless they get someone stellar in return.

There's no need for this rubbish ^.

Volchenkov is not available. End of story. Picture him as a tougher, pissier Regher.

Would Calgary do Gilbert for Regehr (hypothetical, ignoring the whole rivalry thing).

Volchenkov is probably more to Senators than Regehr is to Flames.

Yeah, Gilbert can move the puck. So can Kuba, Lee and like 20 other players Ottawa traded away. Giving up Volchenkov to make up for that short-sightedness makes no sense for them.

I'm gonna tell you right now. Calgary fans think Regehr is Voltron on skates so I don't see him moving. Give Gilbert to the Panthers.

No from Sens perspective. Not interested in moving Volchenkov.

For a signed JayBo

Cogs

Not trying to be a homer, just wonder if thats something Edm fans would consider.

They could just have him in the off-season for free...
