The way I see it, there were three things that had to happen......
1) Briere had to be healthy and good to go
2) Timonen had to be healthy and good to go
3) Metro and Van had to be waived and either pickup, or cleared....
....If one of these three things didn't happen, it puts the team in an awkward position.........and that's where we are now.....Homer didn't screw up....no one did......it is just all bad timing...
The Philadelphia Flyers announced that center Danny Briere has been activated from injured reserve, and defenseman Nate Guenin has been recalled from the Philadelphia Phantoms. Also, the Flyers have loaned forward Claude Giroux and defenseman Lasse Kukkonen to the Phantoms.
Briere, 31, has played in nine games with the Flyers this season, recording five goals and four assists. He has missed the last 36 games with a groin strain, and underwent exploratory surgery on Thursday, January 22. Briere played in three games with the Phantoms on a conditioning assignment before the surgery, recording a goal and four assists.
In 88 career games with the Flyers over parts of two seasons (2007-08 to 2008-09), Briere has 36 goals and 45 assists for 81 points and 78 penalty minutes. He was signed as a free agent on July 1, 2007.
Guenin, 26, has eight assists and 40 penalty minutes in 42 games for the Phantoms this season. In parts of two seasons with the Flyers (2006-07 to 2007-08), Guenin has two assists and six penalty minutes in 11 games.

Dude, if he had the same **** I did it really messes you up. I got it on SB Sunday and was on the couch until Friday. I was still too sick to go out drinking that weekend and even though I wasn't lying dead on the couch any more, I still could only get up and around for a few hours on the weekend before I was so tired that I needed to take a nap. I slept 12-15 hours a day during that time, that's how bad it wipes you out. I slept a good 3-4 hours a night more the following week too. I've only been that sick once before (not counting having Pnemonia).
Well, it's easy to get the flu. Guys are grabbing the same water bottles on the bench. Passing germs around. One guy could be getting over the flu like Carter and inadvertently pass it on to another guy. But the medical staff still sucks.
well its all 4 games this week. Richards missed 3 games due to the flu and he missed a week as well.
The flu sucks. its not like this is a cold or anything. Id be willing to bet hes lost some weight from this. puking and everything else. There is something going on around here that has put people out of work for 2-3 weeks. it sucks, and every team goes through this in some form or another.
This has been a busy week for the Flyers 4 games in 6 nights. So yeah its been 4 games but he has been out a week which is exactly what Richards missed.
The guy I sat next to last night had the flu for 8 days and lost 8 pounds. Should he fire his doctor?
The training staff doesn't cure the flu. If they could, everyone would know how to do it.
lol not to mention we could then cure HIV, west nile, rabies. He has the flu, it blows but hey at least we arent playing any tough teams coming up (Devils, Bruins, Flames). And its not like those teams are doing well (Devils winning 6-1 right now).
The training staff ****s up every single injury that we have. They brought Danny back too early, Gagne back too early, Niittymaki has had multiple hip surgeries, they're horrible.

Wtf...Giroux suffers too just because Kimmo has the freaking flu?
Like I said, the cap apparently forced the move. Giroux just has to be professional about it, he knows that it's not a condemnation of his game. Plus, he with Powe and Parent are likely to be sent down on trade deadline day so they can be eligible for the AHL playoffs.
