Roster moves -- February 28, 2009

Flyers/Phantoms transactions:

02/28/2009 Claude Giroux (RW) Philadelphia ADD Returned on loan from Philadelphia (NHL)

02/28/2009 Lasse Kukkonen (D) Philadelphia ADD Returned on loan from Philadelphia (NHL)

02/28/2009 Nate Guenin (D) Philadelphia DEL Recalled from loan by Philadelphia (NHL)

Before everyone starts freaking out about Giroux he was only sent down for today to clear cap space. This means a deal will be done soon. Giroux makes 400K more then Ross. Giroux wont play a game with the Phantoms just being sent down for some quick cap space until the trade.

Where's your source? I haven't seen this anywhere. Also:

Just got an update on Pronger deal and it appears Pronger to the Bruins is very real and salary cap issues are the only thing holing it up right now. One interesting twist is that Phil Kessel is currently not the main Bruin going back to Anaheim. I am being told that defenseman Mark Stuart, Prospect Joe Colborne and a first round pick in 2010 would go to Anaheim in exchange for Pronger and forward Travis Moen. Both teams have apparently agreed in principle on a trade.
Well it's not for Pronger. It very well could be for Manny Fernandez because Boston needs to clear cap to fit Pronger.

Hmmm.

I have heard rumors that J.Bo could be moved as early as tonight. But after all it was Eklund who reported it so take it with a grain of salt. For all the good Homer has done he has been handling the cap situation terribly.

Briere is getting activated today and have to clear space before 5 Eastern.

Guenin makes less then Kukkonen.

Giroux makes 400K over Ross and 350K over Powe

Source. AHL transaction site and another Flyer board.

I think they just want to get Briere in the lineup, and its at the cost of Giroux for a game. Don't think a trade is going down.

this thread is better suited with a question mark at the end, rather than your definitive period...there is HARDLY a trade guarenteed by those moves alone.

Well what would be the point of that? Don't you HAVE to be "under the cap" only by gametime? The only punishment for being over the cap is forfeiting the game, correct?

Just wouldn't make sense to have to send down Giroux for an off day, and bring him back up for the next game. Unless its to play in an AHL game for conditioning...which I think is the last thing Giroux really needs right now.

honestly im not sure. they would save cap space by sending him down. He has the biggest contract thats able to be sent down. This is a mess.

So finally there it is. What Holmgren wholeheartedly tried to avoid all year long. I knew it took every ounce in his body to make this move, a little part of him died inside, but he finally recalled a defenseman from the Phantoms. Proving that we DO have defensemen that are OUR property.

Every single AHL team has at least 6 defenseman, this is NOT news.

You're hilarious.

Lol, that was STOLEN from a sports illustrated writer who was speculating on deals that made sense to him. That is the EXACT deal he proposed and it was totally fictional, just one that "made sense" to him. Too bad this site didn't include the little caviot that the SI writer did about it "creating a cap problem next year, but that's a problem for another day" or his reason for the tradin being "the Bruins need to be in a 'Win Now' mentality and to go 'all-in' ".

Judging by how the defense has been handled this season, you could have fooled me.
