Markus Naslund

The Rangers are going nowhere fast and could clear up cap space. I highly doubt they'll be able to get rid of any of their real big contracts of Gomez/Drury/Redden etc and Naslund is on a pretty "Cheap" and short contract..one year after this year at 3 million.

Only problem is Naslund is a big family man and I doubt he would waive his NMC to go anywhere but a legit Stanley Cup contender.

He's no longer a superstar and doesn't have that deadly shot anymore or great wheels but he's still good for 20, 25 goals a year and it sure would be nice to see him end his career with a shot at the cup.

I have drawn my hand back to slap the first canucks fan who suggests bringing him back.

Way to soon for Naslund to comeback.. while he is something the Canucks could use.. top six LW I couldn't see Naslund accept coming back jesus, how awkward would that be?

I could maybe see it happening next year though to have him retire as a Canuck.

Markus Naslund going back to the Canucks would be a guy taking back his ex girlfriend who has herpes and gained 350 pounds...it's just something that should NOT happen.

anyways, I really don't think he has much trade value. Maybe a 2nd round draft pick if the Rangers are lucky (from some other team), but with his contract, for what he brings, he isn't worth much. He's on pace for a mere 48 points.

I can't see him waiving his NMC. This is one case where he'd have a much higher value as a UFA.

This topic depresses me because I know the next 3 posters will also be Canuck fans.

Why would we want Georges Laraque? We have Orr.

I don't see him moving his family again, out of the NY area.

yeah... i think it is pretty much family first.

even though all these guys are multi millionaires it wouldn't be that hard on them would it? I mean it's not like his family has been in NEw York for long.

Naslund has got 1 more year and his salary is $3mill, but his cap hit will be $4mill - which is the more appropriate number to use here as it's all about cap hits now, not about his annual salary.

I doubt his value is that bad though... even though he's not putting up a lot of points - 48 pts is not really that productive for a $4mill player - he's still got the reputation to have decent value around the league... even at his current level, wouldn't surprise me if some team gives up a 1st+prospect for him.

don't want to see him back on the canucks though... that ship has sailed. And the team doesn't need another top 6 left winger - Demitra and Daniel have filled those roles and both are outproducing Naslund (as expected).

personally, I see him finishing his 2 yrs in NY and then retiring.

the Rangers are having trouble scoring, so they're going to trade their leading goalscorer?

We just got a new coach! And with the trade deadline approaching, I really think all trades like these should stay on hold for the offseason.

XD that was a good one >_>

Also Torts doesn't seem to be a fan of Naslund all that much, in his press conference he was saying how your best players have to be your best players and mentioned Drury, Zherdev, Redden.. no mention of Naslund despite him being the leading goal scorer.

That said I don't think the Rangers will move any of their big contracts.

If we are lucky? What the firk? It doesn't matter if he isn't what he used to be. I'm far from being a Naslund pimp, but I'm sure a contender would gladly cough up much more than a 2nd round draft pick for a veteran leader on pace for 25 goals.(And that's on the Rangers). Especially at the deadline.

I didn't say it was going to happen... I said I could see Markus doing it next year.. I'm sure he'd turn it down now.
