2 Vancouver Deals: w/ T-Bay & Phoenix

Just tossing some ideas around regarding the Canucks roster heading into the playoffs.

Obviously, Tampa and Phoenix are both selling as they're going nowhere this year...and would probably like to deal their vets for youth and/or picks.

With that in mind...

To Vancouver: Mark Recchi

To Tampa: 2nd Round Pick

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Vancouver: Steve Reinprecht

To Phoenix: Mason Raymond, 5th Round Pick

With trade #1, Recchi gives the Canucks a veteran winger with cup rings and still some gas in the tank, plus - he's a BC boy! He'd be a nice fit (potentially) on the right side with the Sedins, which could move Burrows back to the 3rd line. In return, The Lightning get a 2nd rounder in a slightly deeper than average draft.

In trade #2, the Canucks get another cup winning forward - this time a centre, perfect for the 3rd line now that Kesler has been 'promoted' - for lack of a better term. Reinprecht is also a UFA after this year, so the Canucks wouldn't be locked into any long-term salary issues.

Phoenix gets back a young, speedy winger with tons of potential, and a mid-round pick.

Canuck lines following trades:

Sedin-Sedin-Recchi
Demitra-Sundin-Kesler
Burrows-Reinprecht-Bernier
Hordichuk-Johnson-Pyatt

*Extras: Wellwood / Hansen*

Did I get the value right? Toughts...Comments?

Done from a Tampa Bay perspective.

No for both. Why would you waste a 2nd on Recchi?

Because he has more points this year than ANY Canuck with a last name that ISN'T Sedin?

Because veteran, Cup-winning wingers that can put the puck in the net, and just happen to be from BC - don't grow on trees. I think Tampa will have a few suitors for Recchi, so if you want him - you'd need to pay.

And FYI - what nakes you assume it would be a 'waste' anyway?

I agree. Recchi is great...I'd take him on my Flyers everyday of the week.

No to both for a Canucks perspective.

Raymond has much higher value than a UFA 3rd liner. Not even close, really.

Yah, I dunno if you'd trade a player like Raymond for a rental third line centre. I like the Recchi idea though.

he's 40 and has 13 goals. That's not even an upgrade on Burrows. Your better off packaging Raymond, 2nd + for something more usefull.

I respectfully disagree.

Reinprecht fills a hole on the Canucks 3rd line, and makes the Canucks a better team heading into the playoffs, while right now - Raymond is having trouble cracking the lineup.

As a Vancouver fan i'd do the Recchi trade. Not the other one though.

Age doesn't matter for a deadline rental.

You could even argue that it's a plus considering he has multiple stanley cups, almost 1500 games and has proven that he doesn't disappear in the playoffs.

I'd MUCH rather have Burrows on my 3rd line than Pyatt or Wellwood which is the situation right now.

Gaining Recchi allows Burrows to return to the 3rd line which instantly makes it better, and Recchi's resume speaks for itself. Anyone that focuses solely on Recchi's age is fooling themselves. He still has plenty left and would be a great addition to any team heading into the playoffs.

He's going to be the topic of a LOT of phone calls on deadline day. A lot of teams could use a veteran presence like him that can still play effectively and produce for a playoff run.

I think its going to take a mid to high prospect with that 2nd round pick to land Recchi. Not because hes necessarily worth that...but because he will be in demand and you know how supply and demand works.

You're on crack if you think anyone pays that for a 40 year-old, 13-goal Recchi.

Wait, is Don Waddell still a GM?

^^^What he said^^^.

The week leading up to the trade deadline is when 'Value' goes out the window.

There's only so many players available that fill the many holes that other teams have to fill heading into the playoffs. That's why the prices go up.

Supply & Demand.

yes ill take a 2nd for recchi, and hell fetch at least a 2nd the way hes proving himself this season and with all the young teams in playoff contention.

no, he cannot play 22+min/night unless its padded with alot of pp time. try 3rd line/pp specialist as his assignment, with occasional top 6 shifts. thats where he is excelling this season.

edit: plus hes been great with stamkos. and he hustles like crazy, i wouldnt mind tampa hanging onto him as a "look at that HOFer at 41 who is still busting his ass in the last 20secs of a game your losing" type of guy. puts paychecks into perspective.

People also need to realize that with so many teams within a few points of the 8th seed that there will be many buyers and only a few sellers.

Prices may be higher than usual at the deadline.
