Following the Strickland blog, most posters are claiming that Mtl's now the likeliest destination. I didn't watch the CBC Broadcast. Did they specifically mention that "Bob Gainey" said "no"? Or did they just name Mtl in a list of teams that denied trading for Guerin?

He didn't mention specifically "Bob Gainey". I do not beleive it's us. Where do we get the cap space to absorb 4.5 M?

It's not us. Gainey's not stupid enough to trade for another winger when, out of everything, that's probably the last place we need help.

I think it'll be Dandenault and a mid round pick for him (or possibly a mid level prospect)

with Begin, Dandenault and possibly Laraque all requesting trades, and SK being demoted to Hamilton, it's possible Gainey is looking to add a winger.

And please explain why the rebuilding Islanders would want UFA to be Dandenault as the centrepiece for Guerin??

We have Latendresse and Tanguay returning shortly, and Gainey said tonight Laraque isn't going anywhere. So that's that.

You sure? It's Garth Snow we're talking about.

He also says top 6 forward may go to Calgary... Who is he talking about? Kovalev? Higgins? I hope not Plekanec.

The only reason this might happen is because the Habs are desperate for a good RH shot, especially for the PP. Plus I guess the grit.

However Bill has not impressed me one bit in the playoffs, especially his most recent stint with the Sharks in which he had 2 assists in 9 games. 50 points in 105 career playoff games is terrible.

But I guess I'll reserve judgment until I watch him play (if this is true) as Bob made a great move for Schneider.

At 38 and a pretty average season, not someone you'd overspend on.
Really? Even after tonight?

Watching the game tonight, it really was apparent that this team is far more North American and grittier than the team we started with. I mean Greg Stewart, Glen Metropolit and Georges Laraque on a line? Who could have envisioned that back in September? D'Agostini and Pacioretty bringing a greater influence in recent games has also been a nice alternative to the "soft" game that we were accused of playing a couple of weeks ago.

While Lang's injury and Sergei's poor performance this season have contributed to this change, I will acknowledge that seeing the Canadiens "grit" out wins over the last week has been refreshing. Maybe Guerin fits in that model?

I hope we don't get Guerin personally, because I saw how bad he was in San Jose as a rental. He just looked old and slow, and that was 2 years ago. Considering that he has slacked all year on a last place club on which a certain intensity is not required, I cannot see him come into Montreal and turn it on. I just fear he'll be a lazy veteran, who can't wait to go back to slacking and collecting a paycheque in Long Island after his rental time is over.

Doubt Guerin will be a Hab. We're getting two wingers back soon. Doubt somebody with about same cap will be traded. Maybe Higgins+dandy+young player like chips (this is cap wise, so don't be flaming me for overpayment or anything)...
Still doubt it though.

Sources all agree on one thing...Guerin is likely moved in the morning to a contender in the east...

Hockey Night in Canada is reporting that Bill Guerin is heading to Washington and I don't blame them.....until about 20 minutes ago I had that as an e4...because people on the inside are definitely saying that to be the case...

However, our own Andy Strickland has eliminated Washington, NJ, and Boston. I eliminated Philadelphia from the mix. When it comes to ex-Blues like Guerin, Weight and Pronger I would be very careful not to bet against Strickland.

and now sources are telling me that the team may indeed be the Montreal Canadiens and that the reason it won't be announced until tomorrow is that the team was playing tonight as well...

However, my source also cautions here that there are factors that need to fall into place, adding that the Canadiens have at least three deals available to them, and two of them are in play here.

One of them may be the Habs moving a top six forward to Calgary in conjunction with the acquisition of Guerin...

What really needs to be noted here is that Guerin is one hell of a good soldier for allowing the Islanders to make this move. Billy is very comfortable where he is and I imagine will sign back in NY. Isles fans take note of your captain making the ultimate Captain move here.

I know we have a lot of wingers, but I'm not sure why people are so opposed to Guerin at the right price. He would give us a big, tough, RH winger. Hasn't this been something we've dreamed of?

Yes, his playoff track record is not sparkling, and he's getting up there in age. Still, imagine a line like Tanguay - Koivu - Guerin in the post-season. That could be money!

We'll wait and see how this unfolds, but I think he could be a good pick-up.

I would say that someone else would be moving if Guerin is acquired. Three-way trades are unlikely in this cap era...

Now that we got Schneider, I'd prefer a lower cost effective guy to play with Gorges.
