2007 -- Scottie Upshall scored the OT winner at Boston.

Favorite Flyers moment from the season which remains nameless.

Although I too am nervous about this game, I pray they can pull out a win. I CAN'T STAND THE DEVILS OR THEIR FANS!

Here's the thing I don't understand. Both Powe and Giroux are playing great and should stay up. With Timonen not playing, Briere didn't play Friday. Why didn't the Flyers send him to the Phantoms for a rehab assignment? He could have had games on Friday and Saturday, and rehabbed until Timonen was back. I just feel bad, Giroux's been playing great hockey. I understand Briere is Briere, but to take a leap on him on his first game back and dumping Giroux in the process just doesn't seem like a smart move.

The Flyers had Briere in the AHL a few weeks back and it didn't work out too successfully. I wonder, too, if the NHL looked into the matter as was stated in one article "NHL has their eyes on the Flyers (or something to that effect)."

For cap reasons, this article spells out the numbers (assuming it is correct which isn't always the case):

But to make room for Briere's exorbitant salary, the Flyers were forced to demote promising right wing Claude Giroux ($473,000 cap hit) and depth defenseman Lasse Kukkonen ($875,000) to the Phantoms.

This just 24 hours after seeing center Glen Metropolit (two years, $2 million) and defenseman Ossi Vaananen (one year, $1 million) claimed off waivers by the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks, respectively.

"It's very disappointing," Flyers left wing Scottie Upshall said. "We had two key guys lost due to the business side of hockey.

"You try to act like it has no effect on the dressing room, but it definitely does. You're losing two of your buddies, your teammates, and you're not getting anything in return. We're excited about getting Danny back, there's no question about that. But the new CBA was put in place for that reason, and we're on the side where we had to make moves."

And the Flyers aren't out of the woods yet. In fact, to become salary-cap compliant for today's game they will dress Phantoms defenseman Nate Guenin against the Devils only because his $585,000 salary is significantly less than Kukkonen's. Guenin has not played a game for the Flyers all season.

With all due respect to Guenin and recent call-up Jared Ross ($185,000), the Flyers are a much better team with Giroux and Kukkonen in the lineup.

Yeah I agree, but if he hurts himself coming back and isn't ok to claim for LTIR then we're stuck with Giroux in the minors, right? I knew he flopped last time, but a good skate or two would have been good to test himself before coming back off LTIR.

I am not sure, I don't think any of us envisioned Giroux being back in the minors. Homer and his staff probably have a thousand possible "what if" scenarios especially with the trade deadline near.

Ya know, I just realized that this is the 61st game of the season. 61 is my badge number. They HAVE to win today!!

(That's appropriate logic, no?)

My hockey jersey number is 25. I just checked the 25th game, we lost 3-2 in overtime. Guess who beat us.

The Devils.

Let's hope your badge number breaks the trend Jules!

You know what else too?

From the 25th game of the season to Christmas (Dec. 25), you know how many Flyers games there were?

NINE!

UPSHALL STRIKES AGAIN!

In any event, his return was pushed back to Friday, fair enough. Friday rolls around...nothing. Was his injury not quite right, who knows. Was it merely our cap issues, who knows. Maybe both...safe bet.

Today is a different story. Some players have since been waived and picked up, while others have been sent to the Phantoms. Briere is indeed activated which tells me he's playing. I just hope he's truly ready to come back and this isn't Forsberg 2.0. For all the crap and heat the team Dr's team, I have a hard time believing they push the guy onto the ice if he insists he's not right and has pain and soreness.
If Briere gets hurt again and we've lost Metro, Vaananen, Giroux, and Kukkonen for him, I will go down there and smash him and Holmgren in the face with a giant shovel.

Flyers passion baby!!!

Like I said, if that happens...*knocks wood*...Daniel Briere is Peter Forsberg 2.0

Got to back in Black on this one.

Thanks for the heads up on the Yahoo feed, hopefully it works for me, if not ill try hotspot. This game would have meant everything in terms of seeing where we are, where we are going etc, but with the obvious people out and the D that looks the way it does. Marty you are going to have to go into playoff mode---MTL style. IF we win this game Ill be so fing proud to be a Flyers fan. .
