There are other ways then selling off your top PP threat, and in the this GM's opinion, is nothing but basically a waste of space for us.

Has the NHL had a 10 person trade before? Never mind the draft pick thrown in.

I thought the Gilmour to Toronto was 10 which was the biggest in league history. Add in the pick and this would be (if this wasn't a game).

The Pens trade Whitney AND Staal and come back with Kunitz, Tangradi, .... and HUNTER?

Was the intent to make the playoffs or to get ready for the free agent period?

I understand that some of the GM's are unrealistic in these games having been in one last year, but that's just ugly IMO.

The Kunitz deal was easy.
The Schubert deal I love for the third.
Zanon .... for a 2nd? WTF!
And I won't even comment on Whitney and Dupuis ....
And keeping Satan's 3.5M on the roster?

I noticed that as well. That smaby deal was just ****ing brutal......Lets trade away our best defensive defensemen which is something we need more of for garbage.....Just made the bolts even worse....didn't think that was possible.

Some comments and analysis for my team.

First, where do Chipchura and McArthur wind up? They're both playing in the NHL right now? Do they get relegated to Lake Erie?

Second, I'd like to see the list of draft picks and prospects you ended up with. Considering we're a re-building team, that's more important than the roster you've put together. Also, where'd you end up on the cap?

Third, I'm not wild about, but don't have any problems with, the four guys you brought in on the roster: Halak, Hecht, Afinigenov, and Morrisonn. I'll go one by one.

Halak: probably an upgrade from Budaj, but I'm not convinced he's the answer. His play in the last couple games, however, is on the way to changing my mind. I'll give you a thumbs up on it, as Hensick has become pretty irrelevant. The 2nd in 2010 might hurt, but if Halak fixes the problem, it's totally worth it.

Hecth: Ok. He's not old but he's not young. His cap hit isn't huge. I just don't really understand why we needed another center. I suppose he's a long term replacement (and huge upgrade) for Arnason and/or Lappy and/or Guite, all of whom might walk this summer.

Afinegenov: this one has me the most puzzled. Only because he's a UFA. It's not like we're going anywhere this season. You didn't pay much in the deal to bring in Afinigenov and Hecht, but both additions seem kinda pointless, unless they're a major part of us going forward. But considering Maxim might pick up and walk in the summer, that's one pick we could've kept.

Morrisonn: I like this one the best. There's been a lot of speculation about the Avs and Caps involving Morrisonn, and quite frankly I like it. He's young, RFA, potentially cheap. If nothing else, we can put an offer sheet out there and possibly get some compensation. He might also be a major part of our future blue line! Plus, you got rid of Clark!

So, nothing terrible, nothing spectacular. Perhaps a realistic look at what the Avs could do at this deadline, though I doubt FG is as active as you were, of course. Main thing is I want to see what our draft and prospect pool look like, as well as where some of these other pieces ended up.

He was asking for ridiculous things back so nobody really wanted to trade with him. I just threw out the Modin-Roberts offer and he liked it but other than that the returns he wanted were really high.

Hmm. I like that you acquired 8 prospects and gave up only 2, both of which I think are going to be expandable to the Avs future. (Hensick cuz we have Stazz-Wojo, Cumisky cuz he'll never be an NHL dman.) So, even though I don't know much about the prospects you've picked up, I like that you really deepened the pool.

However, I really don't like what you've done at the 2010 draft. That draft is supposed to be deep, right? I'd like to keep our 2nds for both drafts, unless we're trading up in the 1st round.

Other than that, good job.

There's a reason I'm not the Pens GM.

If Gill was worth a 2nd and a 5th, Zanon's worth a 2nd.

Personally I like Hunter and he's signed to a good deal and nobody wanted to give me jack squat for Whitney.

Kunitz and Tangradi for Staal was probably pretty bad for me, I think Shero did better in getting them for Whitney. But once again I didn't really get any better offers.

Look at the new game though. I thought we played this game decently realistic in comparison.

Ok then keep him up and send Jones down (If I am not mistaken he can still be sent down and up without going on waiver, I could be wrong though.) If not there is still room to put someone as a healthy scratch and let people play for there role on the time. little competition never hurt anyone.
