Flying with skates/stick?

Hey.
I am flying from Montreal to Edmonton, one-way on Air Canada this week.

The only eqp I am bringing with me are my skates and stick. It is going to be tight getting my blades to fit inside my luggage. Does anyone have any experience flying with sports equip? My stick isn't very expensive, but I like it, what are the fees like to bring a stick on the flight? Can you ship your skates outside of your regular luggage?

Thanks

How big are your feet? Stuff as many underwear and socks in your skates as you can and put them in your luggage. Turf some of those fancy clothes of yours if you have to.

Not sure about the stick. Maybe someone knows something on that one. I was wondering about that just the other day.
