If such a player is ever suggested to go to the Habs they are immediate labeled as useless, old and taking the place of a "kid". Seriously I would be thrilled if the Habs filled the role player spots with vets instead of guys like Stewart and Chipchura. Detroit and San Jose make their players play in the minors until they are ready for full time duty. They don't play them in the NHL to learn. The NHL playoffs are not the place for guys to learn to play in the NHL.

Pittsburgh added Roberts, Recchi, Sydor etc and they went to the finals.
We have guys like Brisebois, Schneider, Lang, Koivu for that reason and I have no problem with it. I like having young players in the mix, but you have to gradually integrate 2-4 new guys every year, not 7-8 at once.

He's been sitting out for years and just started playing again, he's almost 50 here. He's not the Claude Lemieux of the late 80's early 90's.

You are going beyond role players. If you are looking at just age...I could have added Draper, Maltby, Holmstrom, Lidstrom, Osgood, Rafalski...the list goes on. Half of their team is between 35 and 40 and yet they just keep winning.
