Boring Trade Deadline This Year

Does anyone else think the Trade deadline is not really going to be exciting as it has in the past because of the economy being so down. It has already affected the NBA trades with teams opting to keep less than steller players because they have favorable cap contracts and would be off the books next year. I hadn't seen this discussed yet and wanted to see everyones opinion.

Yeah I don't think it'll be as exciting as year's past either. Economy and cap decrease will screw some teams.

It may be. However, I also think that some teams may be motivated to buy more than other years. Some teams will desperately need the income and popularity that come with a good cup run.

True but I don't see high price players with 1 year left on their contract moving like in years past because that will be a big boost come the offseason because that cap hit won't be their anymore

The same thing was said last year. Give it time - there's 12 games going on tonight, so there's 24 teams likely not wanting to deal just yet.

it would be hilarious if only few trades happen tomorrow.

I don't see more than 15 trades happening tomorrow to be honest.

It might not even be the economy so much. The rental list this year just isn't as exciting as previous years.

The other factor is that so many teams in both conferences are still in the hunt, which should equal less sellers than in recent years. 22 of 30 teams have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs (in, or less than two games out) currently.

Heh, I had to check the posting date to make sure this one wasn't ressurected from one of the past three years.

Give it time.

Exactly. I'd imagine the same thing was said the year before, and the year before that.

Some people have short memories. Think back to last year. It was hardly exciting the day before the deadline.

Yeah but there wasn't really a recession going on at that time

with the craziness in the west and almost everyone buying, it would be insane to think this trade deadline will be boring. so many teams need that extra player to put them over the top, especially in the west, so i would definitely think there will be a lot of trading

In the East there are way more potential buyers than sellers, coupled with the economy and salary cap, I think the next 24 hours could be very anti-climactic.

we've said that the last few years and I think for 3 years in a row now there's been 25 trades on deadline day. This happens every year. There's nothing for like the majority of deadline day and then in the final 2 hours there's like 15 trades. It's mostly minor ones but still.

Yeah, or even less. There's just too many teams that probably feel they still have a shot at the playoffs, so we'll have less sellers.

I wouldnt call it boring deadline.. there are plenty of players in the rumors... Bouwmeester, Guerin, Pronger, Smyth etc.

We'll see.

Since when is the day before the deadline the trigger day? If anything, the quieter it is today, the more I think GMs will be scrambling for their teams/playoff hopes/jobs tomorrow.

Totally agree... considering that the biggest deals so far have been the Comrie and Whitney deals. Seems like all the excitement (if any) will be right at the deadline

I would gladly accept zero trades if it meant teams found a way to swing trades throughout the regular season instead. Preferably most teams stayed 3-4 million under the/their cap and we once again saw player movement all year long instead of just at the deadline and entry draft.
