Sean Avery claimed off re-entry waivers by NYR

The previous Avery thread hit the 1000 post limit.

I'll update this thread title when the news is broken. Carry on....

Real risky for the Pens. No way they pick him up blindly. They would have to vet his interest and as long as he believes Sather wants him Sean will return to NYR.

Sather saved his ass. I expect he will be the IMPACT player we remember.

Whens the next Rangers Devils game?

If the Pens claim him, oh well. He's their headache then.

holy crap, 1000.............watch him go somewhere else

I think if Avery does come it may trigger other deals they have rolling cause they know how much space they have left which is well not much

I still think Prucha, Kalinin are gonners as well as Dawes and some picks and likely a guy like Potter

For example........Prucha, Potter , 2nd rounder for Kuba, Schubert..........then Rozsival for a top 6 forward

People are really getting to high on sean avery.

He may provide energy but he is not going to be the impact player we need, which would be a legitimate scorer. I'm not saying its a waste getting him, but a 3rd thread on sean avery? C'mon.

I don't think people are being to high on Avery. It's more of the on-ice respect/awareness that he gets from teams.

My favorite Sean Avery moment is not his clutch goal against the Blues which turned around the 07 season, it's not from the playoffs against the Devils last year.

My favorite moment was in his first game against the Devils when he went to the net and made contact with Brodeur. Seeing Avery stand up for himself and for the team by pushing Marty back was amazingly refreshing. So often the Rangers would be pushed around an nobody would stand up.

That is the real value in Sean Avery.

Thing I worry about now is, Sean gives Marty a dirty look and it's going to be an interference call.

I agree that people aren't going overboard with Avery expectations though. Even his big fans here are realistic about what he brings to the table.

People are high on making a trade for a capable offensive winger with grit without trading anything to get him other than sacrificing 1.9 million in cap space.

That's an awesome first trade deadline day move. And it gives us the depth to either say no, screw you, we don't have to sacrifice the farm for your overrated player, or go out and get that scorer we need.

Avery is most def an impact player. He just is. He is a player the other team watches every time his skates hit the ice. He has presence.

Hes not our 40 goal scorer, but he will make room for or "Dormant" offense to get some more chances.

I think a high percentage of people here were against having Avery back at what he wanted (4 million) or even 3 million. I think most of those people would gladly except him back at 1.9 million per considering that's what he made last season here.

Going to be a very interesting one hopefully. Who would've imagined the scenario? Brodeur out a couple of months, Avery out a couple of months and goes back to the Rangers. We did see him once in Dallas, and Marty kind of manhandled him in front of the net. I'm sure he was under total scrutiny from officials as well though.

I'm really honestly pulling for another first round series between us again.

God forbid Marty got a penalty called against him.

Heh, look at that, Marty trying to bend over yet another guy.

Okay, I'm done. Carry on.

This statement best matches how I have felt about Sean Avery for the past 9 months.

i have a feeling the pens will claim him. even if it's just for some weeks, couldn't they just put him on waivers again later and if the rangers claim him then he wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs?

TSN should have it just after 12. Figure around 12:15. Darren Dreger usually announces all of the waiver claims around the same time on Leafs Lunch.

12-1 is Leafs Lunch

Brodeur is a pro, he knows just how far he can go... most of the time. Thats one of Averys pluses. He, for whatever reason, has mind****ed Brodeur and gets him off his game. Hes not the only aggitator hes faced

and in that light, you would think that any team who has a chance of playing the Devils in the playoffs may take a chance (Pens).
