I don't think it has anything to do with the economy...there may be fewer trades because some teams are so tight up against the cap...Look at the Flyers and Rangers who are both usual suspects for big trades and they are struggling to create space...I think this is a big issue.

Relax guys, last year, only one deal happen the day before trade deadline, and next day was boom! 25 trades. I expect between 17-20 trades to happen tomorrow.

I don't think it will be a big day either. So many teams are up against the cap.

up to about 2pm estern time we ***** and moan and then BAM---somebody either buys big or sells big

the big question this year is what Toronto will do. I truly doubt they will get that first rounder for Antropov--will he take a 2nd and 4th. Burke will either b caught with egg on his face or he will look like a genius. Burke has played the media good, but the media at some point in time realize that the game he is playing in TO is the same game he played in Vancouver and after awhile--it got old

That's what we gave you last year for Hal Gill. You will get more than a 2nd and 4th for Antropov.

EDIT: It was a 2nd and 5th last year.

Hey, looks like it's heating up. TSN has had 3 stories in the past 5 minutes (Backstrom, Avery, Morris is pursued by 3 teams ).

No trades though.

I don't know about that:

Big names:
J-Bo, Niedermeyer, Pronger >> Campbell
Gaborik <= Hossa
Fernandez = Huet

Other potential moves: Tkachuk, Guerin, Antropov, Kubina, Kaberle, Moore, Jokinen, Morris, Rheinprecht, Recchi, Prospal

A bunch of the same names as last year, and with the big d-men available - I think there's more team changing talent available compared to last year.

More people this year will be waived then traded, but it still should be a decent day(of trades)

Again a little different than past years with 12 teams operating at negative revenue streams. Hell there has even been reports that the Coyotes are going to receive bail out money.

Nashville Predators -1.3
Philadelphia Flyers -1.8
Boston Bruins -3.0
Atlanta Thrashers -6.1
Washington Capitals -6.9
Columbus Blue Jackets -7.1
St Louis Blues -8.6
New York Islanders -8.8
Buffalo Sabres -8.9
Florida Panthers -9.4
Phoenix Coyotes -9.7
Carolina Hurricanes -11.5

I don't think any of these teams are going to take on any money to get a deal done. And the NHL not allowing teams to pick up some of the contract money if a player is traded that pretty much takes almost half of the teams out of the market.

I think it has more to do with the fact that the talent pool for trading is rather thin to begin with and the fact that 22 teams are still possible buyers and might not want to part with players will hinder things. At least the league is showing parity.

Thats not why they are taking players whos contracts are done in time for the next seasons end.

In the summer of 2010 there will be a number of high profile agesnts on the market including lebron.

So teams are making sure they have cap room to spend that off season.

At least it makes for a good July first
With all these teams trying to make the playoffs, some won and they'll have good free agents.

First reply put it perfectly. Well said.

There are two sides of that coin. I think some teams are going to be f* really badly.

When the going gets tough etc...

Aside from Hossa, it's not like last year's was all that interesting either, so it doesn't have much to live up to

the deadline is "boring" this year because there is no Peter Forsberg sweepstakes.
