Yeah, that would not sit well with the players. Technically Backstrom can be traded because he doesn't have a NTC at this moment, but dealing him would be a PR disaster.

Sometimes a player is traded though before the new contract kicks in, like Vokoun and Visnovsky. Both were June deals if I remember right.

Imo, he is overpaid. I dont think he is well estbalished goalie to be making that kind of money.

I refer to his impending RFA status.

Oh. That's not immedietely!

Yeah there is little chance they keep him to ride the pine for 4 more years. It's too bad because I like the guy a lot and think will be a solid goalie for years to come.

I would be surprised if he was a Wild past tomorrow.

So i've asked around in a couple other places, w/out any real answers. What would it take for the flyers to get him?

It would probably start with Lupul.

Really that much? Well either way, I'd love to see him in Philly. I feel like it would be a better move for draft day, but I'd be worried someone else would get him by then.

I wouldn't be against moving Lupul for him, but are you implying it could/would take more than just him?

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Harding was traded tomorrow. I honestly think that the Capitals should take a run at him. Maybe Nylander could be of use to the Wild to give them some offensive push and also help them gear up for a playoff run. That is if Nylander waives his NTC and the Wild have cap space. On the other hand good mood by the Wild be resiging Backstrom. When he is in net the Wild have a chance every night. I though he might be dealt tomorrow. But then again it could be a sign and trade deal, where he is moved and the team aquiring his services knows they are getting a starting goaltender for 4 years.

LOL whoa Lupul and a first round pick for an RFA who's not stepping out of Nick's shadow for at least four years? Are you guys looking for an overpayment, or do you really believe it would take that type of offer from any team?

More than Lupul? Probably not too much (Lupul and a 1st is crazy), if anything. But look at what Mike Smith reeled in. Harding's pedigree is higher than Smith's to boot.

My guess is that Harding is more likely to be dealt at the draft, if that makes you feel better.

Honestly, I would do Lupul and a mid-round pick for Harding at the draft in less than a heart beat, and the bonus is it benefits both clubs

Lundqvist currently has the highest cap hit for any goalie in the league. Luongo and Khabibulin are right behind him at $6.75mill... Backstrom is now tied with Gigeure at 4th in the league with a $6mill/yr cap hit, just ahead of Kipper ($5.833), Turco and Vokoun ($5.75 ea). Huet ($5.625) and Nabokov ($5.373) round out the top 10. Brodeur is now the 11th highest paid goalie in the league - quite the steal for him now!

Not having to pay an agent 10% or more helps even it out in the end for Brodurer. It puts him to #5 give or take a spot.

I am shocked Ovechkin was able to get $10m/yr without an agent. Dude has his post NHL career setup to go already it seems!

Good deal for Minny. THey know what they have. With Harding, they dont.

He's been given a lot of shots. Lemaire has never had kid gloves when it came to goalie egos; always willing to make a new #1. Harding's problem is that he's been behind guys who have played better.

Hardly. Backstrom has played well. Hard to justify any statement that Harding hasnt played well either. If you`re stonewalled by someone of better performance, perceived better performance, or lesser talent, you have no choice but to get out of that situation ASAP. 4 yr deal means he will never be #1 in Minny.

This is fantastic for the Wild.

Now they need to re-stock the last three defensive spots, and improve the forward corps, then they're set for next year.

Lupul could be a good fit; but I can't help but think of his edmonton days. We need a shooter.

I'd say Parent/Sbisa/Nodl and a pick.
