The hopefully just BS Nylander rumor thread

Broadcast on 730 AM CKAC, the colorful host Ron Fournier said he would have learned from a source that the Montreal Canadiens would be in negotiations with the Washington Capitals to acquire Michael Nylander.

Fournier said he is on this issue for several hours and that its source would be a general manager of another team than the one involved.

Nylander is center aged 36 years totaling 27 points in 57 games this season and the Canadiens are interested in to replace Robert Lang.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were true and it's better than nothing, but I hope he's not the priority.

Why the hell would we take on that contract? He is not even worth picking up on waivers, we'd be doing the Caps a big favor.

Hopefully the usual CKAC BS rumor.

But was Fournier actually saying there were talks? The bits of the show I heard it seems like they were just talking like ''what if McPhee offered Nylander for nothing to Gainey... would you''

I'd say it's worse than nothing...

Two years from now (in the supposed Cap-Armageddon season) he'll be 38 and earning 4.875M per year. He's had 1 good season in his career playing with Jagr. Otherwise, he's pretty much entrenched in the 60pt range.

edit: (typo)

Considering we have a ton of UFA's next year and there aren't many available centers during free agency, this might not be so bad. Does he have 2 years left, including this year? Or is it 2 years after this year?

This. Maybe on re-entry waivers he'd be more enticing, but as it stands, the contract's terrible and really not that appealing. If some people don't want to see Koivu get a raise, I can't imagine the reaction of paying Nylander that much.

Not only does his contract suck, but we will get dizzy watching him spin and spin and spin and spin and he doesn't get anywhere!!

well... Gainey could most probably get him for a low pick or for a guy like Dandenault... it could be a good trade. Plus, if Lang doesn't come back next season, Nylander could replace him.

Two people with low post counts posting about this spamming a low quality site as source. Hmmm...

Me thinking they want ads without paying.
