As close as your going to get. Or you could sit back and watch the Devils in the finals.

Balls in your court... your GM will do the right thing. (Ugh... don't really want to lose Pronger).

So if the Bruins get Pronger, they are guaranteed the cup? The Devils acquired Havelid.... Not exactly a Lidstrom-caliber D-man.

I still keep Bergeron... I want to contend beyond 2 years.

For me, it's an easy choice.

If getting Pronger means moving Bergeron I don't want him.
We get it.

OK, Let me turn that one around then - Why should Chiarelli trade for CP if it's NOT going to be a fair deal?

The question is: Do you want to contend for years or be favorites for 2 years?

They've gotten by fairly well with the rotation of Martin St. Pierre/Karsums/Bitz and Co., but they need to fill the void left by Sturm.

This new rumour makes a bit more sense - we have Sobotka waiting in the wings to take over as 3rd line centre, and Krejci is more than capable of holding down the 2nd line centre position. This move would allow us to bolster our defense, and ship off a defender (Hunwick, Stuart) to fill the void on the LW left by Sturm.

I'd prefer not to part with Hunwick, but he's a valuable piece and would garner the better return.
hunwick? a valuable piece...?

IMO, you won't win the cup without him.

Maybe not this year... But unlike Pronger he gives us a larger window to work with.

Ungh...this is going to get ugly in the next 22 hours...

Seems too steep and I now know why the deal fell through. I can't think of another forward who trading would mess with the chemistry than Bergeron.

Maybe he wants to improve his teams chances of winning it all?

Deal! I'd rather have Kessel.

So now you know what it's like to be in your GMs shoes.

Ofcourse you are not guaranteed to win a Cup but if you (as a GM) truely believes that your team can win it this year and acquiring a certain player will only improve those chances, you do it. There is no guarantee you will win with Pronger but there also no guarantee if you keep Bergeron. You say you want to contend in two years but who's to say you will. Look at what happened to the Sens, Penguins, Sabres, it could happen to you also.

The question here is are the Bruins more of a favourite with Pronger in their lineup or with Bergeron? I think the former is the correct answer.

BTW, the Devils have something you don't......Marty Brodeur. Hard to bet against Marty in the PO's and this year he has actually had a break due to his injury.

Ok... AGAIN, I highly doubt Boston JUST wants to contend for 2 years.

You can contend for four years without Bergeron! What don't you get about that statement?

ex·pend·a·ble
3. Not strictly necessary; dispensable: an expendable budget item; expendable personnel.

With two lines, one of them with two inconsistent forwards (Wheeler and Krejci)? Sure!

Bergeron has been better than Kessel, Krejci, Wheeler, and Lucic over the past 16 games. He's starting to become the player he was before his injuries.

Then again, what do I know. I only watch the Bruins every single game.
