Because Florida isn't looking to rebuild, they're fighting for a solid playoff seed?
Uh, they would keep Bouwmeester then because Bouwmeester is better. If they're fighting for a playoff spot, how much sense does it make to trade your best defenseman for an older, worse player?
It's so mind-boggling stupid. Give the Panthers more credit than that.

I'm sure they're giddy at the prospect of having four months to work out a contract with another free agent that has absolutely no loyalty or ties to their franchise and is undoubtedly asking for more than he's worth (otherwise he'd be staying in Vancouver). I bet Florida's management is just salivating at that thought.

But they're not rebuilding, right? You said that yourself. Every other piece going back there would be prospects, draft picks, and fringe NHLers (Raymond). Why would they give up their best defenceman for a return like that when they're trying to compete for a playoff spot?
Ohlund to Florida for Bouwmeester doesn't make one lick of sense if you give it even a moment's thought. C'mon guys!
Edler will be kept and not traded, he's the only player other than Salo that can play the point with his 100mph+ shot and qb the pp.
Bieksa's going to the other way if this happens. Florida gets a dman to help their pp now and signed to a reasonable deal for a few years, Vancouver gets that elite puck mover they've been wanting for awhile now.
If I were Gillis and Martin mentions Hodgson, I hang up.
I agree that he shouldn't trade Hogdson but I bet you Martin has mentioned Hodgson. Bouwmeester would be an awesome pickup for the Canucks because they need a puck moving defenseman.

I'm not a fan of dealing either Bieksa or Edler for an unsigned Bouw. Take a big run at him in the offseason.
If it's Raymond & a 1st you do it, otherwise were dealing one of our two younger good defenseman (on a good contract) for a defenseman who's better, but will no doubt be looking for top dollar if he resigns.
Looking at some of these proposals. thank god you guys aren't the gm of the canucks.
Way to overpay. Jaybo is not a top 10 dman, i repeat, Jaybo is NOT a top 10 dman.
And chances are he will get paid like one.
1st and raymond + prospect, or 1st and ohlund + prospect is fair.
You seem to not understand my point then. I believe a team should take the best possible trade regardless of if you might face that player on the team you traded him to. Teams are going to make moves, you might as well do the best to improve YOUR team.
I hope Gillis has more sense than you to say, "sorry Jacques, but Cody is off-limits. Who else might you interested in?"
Can see it now, Gillis complains on Thursday saying his offer for Jay Bouw was gonna be better than Philly's but Martin never called him back after MG hung up on him.
Phi appaerntly is going hard for Morris,Jay.......couple of irons in the fire and that could change their pursuit of Jay-bo.
Bieksa= to JayBO in points and Bieksa has played 10 less gms,Bieksa has two more yrs at decent rate,Jay UFA and will be 6+,Give Jay bo upside and say a better defencman for argument. They are even in value because of contracts, similar numbers.
Does an Obrien,Davison,Raymond and a !st sound even remotly appeasing to Flor fans

i'd argue ohlund/bieksa, raymond/grabner, and a first is better than jvr and lupul
Florida wants a player who can go in and help them make the playoffs even if they get rid of jaybo.
So that's Ohlund
They also want a decent prospect, so that's grabner/schneider/Raymond.
and they want a first round pick.
So realistically it would look like this
Ohlund
raymond/grabner/schneider(pick one)
1st round pick
For Jaybo.
Is this a good deal?, well maybe, It matters if you willing to give up that prospect or not.
Realistic would be that an organization would not be dumping a UFA dman for another UFA dman. Why would Ohlund even waive his NTC for Florida as well? It's going to be Bieksa or bust.

Apparently Bouwmeester doesn't have any loyalty to the franchise either. It's been widely reported he's not interested in re-signing with Florida. Ohlund also stated on Vancouver radio that whatever team he's traded to or signs with in the offseason, it will be his last and only move. I'm sure he'd have no problem coming to an agreement with the Panthers, especially if the team has a good playoff showing this year.
