Derek Morris to be a devil or flyer

Quote:
The word out of Phoenix was that the Derek Morris trade was likely to go down tonight, but now it looks as though it will carry over to tomorrow.

As for Tom Poti, originally listed as a healthy scratch in Washington, he missed tonight’s game with a groin pull.

Word is Derek Morris could be heading to the Devils or the Flyers.
source

eklund just mention bryz and morris to the flyers for biron, lupul and a pick.

edit from espn
Quote:
ESPN colleague E.J. Hradek e-mailed us tonight with a rumor he heard involving a bigger deal between the Flyers and Coyotes -- Morris and goalie Ilya Bryzgalov going to Philly in exchange for Joffrey Lupul, Scottie Upshall and Biron.
at least now we know eklund just get rss updates from a bunch of blogs. hahahhaha

I think they want Florida to take on too much salary to make the deal work.

And why on earth would Phoenix want to do such a deal, anyhow? It's ridiculous.

Isn't that basically a copy and paste of Bob McKenzie's blog entry from earlier tonight...with this...

Remember, FL has plenty of cap space still. They just don't want dead weight. On a diff topic entirely, why have we not heard of any trades yet, and midnight EST has just passed...

It doesn't fit under the cap for the Flyers - and they're already sitting at the minimum 20 players on the NHL roster so they can't send an extra roster player over without first calling someone up [which they can't do because they ... don't have enough payroll room].

Excuse me, sir. You've forgetten the word "shenanigans". It was included in the thread title deliberately for very specific reason.

Well even if Florida has the cap space there is no gurantee they want to spend to the cap, especially if it requires them to commit to long term contracts such as Lupul's and Carle's.

Waiting for tomorrow to see what happens with Bouwmeester, perhaps? I could see Morris as being Philadelphia's back up pick.

I doubt the Devils would take both Havelid and Morris. They have enough "solid" dman now. Any additional move for a dman would be for a powerplay specialist.

The Devils were probably in talks with both Phoenix and Atlanta at the same time, before deciding on Havelid.
