Flames Claim Lawrence Nycholat

Interesting move by Sutter. Depth is never a bad thing. Have to wonder if he is on his way to QC to help out the farm team as they have had some injuries the last couple days.

I hope he's going to QC because Nycolat isn't anything special. He's a #7 defenceman at best. Hopefully Sutter has something else up his sleeve.

At this time of year, it is becoming customary for the lords to offer drippings to the needy. You're welcome.

depth move... no more, no less... 550k (so basically 125k for us) and a pending UFA there is really nothing to lose... he will get a game in here and there but won't be a regular

I think we are going to be happy with him, and I think at the end of the day he may end up playing more then most people anticipate.

Nycholat doesn't have many tricks up his sleeve, but if there is one thing he is decent at it is moving the puck and skating....These are needs the Flames have...I'd play him over Warrener or Eriksson and that alone will probably get him decent playing time as the season ends and the playoffs unfold..

It's Pretty bad when Anders becomes the whipping boy in the QC with his absolute retarted plays. I cant count on two hands how many goals came from Anders trying to be cute with the puck on the blue line and or taking stupid penalties.

Okay Saturday night he took two penalties and both times Houston scored. Sunday we are on a pp he tries to be cute coughed up the puck and Chicago scores short handed.

I wish Calgary would just give him away hes worthless.

Nycholat was an AHL all star and would be welcomed here since Palin and wilson left the game sunday.

Nycholat, 29, is a Calgary native.

"He'll join our hockey club tomorrow (in Philadelphia)," said head coach Mike Keenan. "Again, we're looking for depth. As you know, we've been down a little bit since Mark Giordano (shoulder) got hurt. Now we have some depth to cover off that position."

This gives Pardy some competition as the #6D right now. Look for these guys to be rotated in and out IMO, especially with vandermeer back.

Competition is always a good thing. Hope he turns out to be able to provide that depth the team needs from time to time.

based on games i've seen of Pardy, he's still a few steps ahead of Nycholat.

Also he just came off of injury, so don't expect him rotating into the lineup, unless you need a body.

not exactly the depth D I was hoping for but it could just be an added insurance if no one can be acquired tomorrow. although it makes me wonder if Sutter is just planning on calling up Warrener and/or Eriksson for the playoffs, instead of making any minor addition.

I can't imagine that the Flames will try to send him to the AHL. They'd have to put him through waivers, and the Canucks would instantly re-claim him since there would no longer be any roster limits and they'd already carried him on the roster all year even though he was hardly playing.

Hopefully this isn't this only defensive move we make at the dealine.
I'm still hoping for Morris

Who else might Calgary go after? In terms of defense?
