But they still have a very talented team and as much as I hate to say it, I'm sure UND'll be right there in the top five again, easily. But it's still fun to watch Souix fans squirm a bit, right?

If Matt Greene leaves as well (since there's been some speculation that he might leave. Check out the Oilers boards. Guy Flaming is on top of all this stuff.), you may get your wish.

P. S. Nice avatar!
Greene will stay on for this year. Bochenski leaving hurts a lil. but he hasnt signed anything yet so its not official. the sioux are stacked so it wont hurt that badly.
Boy, just as with the Parise thing, this is STUPID! Why on earth would he leave early when he doesn't know if there will even BE NHL hockey coming up? The AHL will likely close down, too, as they cannot run without the help of the parent teams, so he can't play there, either. Why not stay in college, win the scoring title, be a runner-up for the Hobey, and THEN move on to the AHL. One more year is certainly not going to hurt his development, but an entire year off might. It makes NO sense! The money will still be there in 9 months, maybe even MORE if he has another great season. Sigh....

number one, the AHL will be running next year.
number two, bochenski's probably got the rookie max coming to him, the value of which would certainly go down if he left when there is a new CBA

smart move by bochenski if you ask me
Number one, NO, the AHL very well may NOT be running if there is no NHL season. So says the AHL President (in an old issue of Hockey News from about April).
Bobo will be lucky to get much, as he was only a 7th round choice. Although his last 2 seasons will help a bit, he still won't get a huge signing bonus, and may have nowhere to play. Big bonus but no team (therefore NO salary) vs. perhaps smaller bonus (after the CBA) but team and salary. Seems like he made the WRONG choice IF HE GOES, which hasn't even been discussed in the Forks yet.
Yep, in the interview he did here in the Forks, he said he MAY go IF they offered him enough money by the end of August (which they hadn't as of August 5), and it looked like he realized they weren't going to. I think he'll be back. It'll be nice to see him skating that trophy around in April, and back at the Ralph where it belongs!
Well according to the this GFH article, it's now official. Bochenski will not be back at UND this fall. Also, third string goalie Nate Ziegelmann, who saw very little ice time because of the way Jordan Parise and Jake Brandt played last season, is looking to transfer and also won't be back.

Thoughts?
This is VERY disappointing for a Sioux fan! I think Blais handled the Ziegelmann situation very poorly last year, for starters. Here is a kid who is/WAS going to be your future, and he only got to mop up in 3 games? Yes, Parise played better than expected, but if Ziegelmann would have gotten 15 starts, he might have found his game, too.
Bobo leaving is stupid on his part, except for the slightly larger signing bonus he will now get. It sounds more and more like there will not be an NHL season coming up, and the AHL president has said they very well may not play a season if the NHL is not going (since most of the teams are owned by the NHL owners, too), so where is Bochenski going to play? In the ECHL? That's worse than NCAA hockey! I think he realized his numbers were going to drop dramatically without Zach Parise, so he'd get while the getting was good. He has an NHL-quality shot, and has improved his skating quite a bit, but one more year would certainly have helped.
On the other hand, the little Lamoreaux kid coming in to play goalie this year is supposed to be the second coming of Christ, so...

Well I'm sure the NHL franchises will have to run the AHL season in order to get the money to pay for the new buildings some of them build. some team even brought them in their town in tinder to maximize the benefit and minimize the costs.
So I think Bochenski made the right move both financially and for his career... of course it hurt the Sioux..but one have to think about his career first IMHO
