[COL/CGY] Leopold to Flames for Nycholat, Ryan Wilson & MTL 2nd rounder
I thought if you claimed someone off of waivers you couldn't trade him during that same season? Can anyone help out here? Am I wrong or is there something else that happened that I don't know about?
You can't trade him back to the same team I believe.

That's correct. The wording is the offer to the other claiming teams must be completed before the player can be traded.
i.e. Presumably there were no other claims made, or Calgary has already gone through the offer process to the other claiming teams without a taker. Otherwise Calgary would not be allowed to trade him now.
I like how the Flames traded a 2nd round pick for Leopold, the 2nd round pick they got for trading Tanguay to Montreal, Tanguay which was traded for Leopold originally.
I don't think it's an out right steal for Calgary. Colorado still gets a mid-later 2nd round pick and a decent prospect who put up huge numbers in OHL for a UFA that they would have lost for nothing. Schneider got a 2nd and 3rd. Good deal for both sides.
They picked Nycholat off waivers, and trade him away? LOL.
Yeah, this isn't the actual NHL, it's NHL '09. Anyway, great for me because I own Leopold. I hope CGY resigns him and lets him play with Phaneuf next yr.

No man this is an excellent deal for Calgary. The only logic I see for Giguere is tanking. This isn't selling, this is giving players away.
I'm surprised the Av's couldn't more than a second, a prospect, and a guy they passed on through waivers for Leopold... Maybe Sutter was playing NHL 09, picked up a player off waivers, traded him and thought.. hey why not give it a go in the big league???
