IMO Carcillo will not play in the playoffs. Takes too many dumb penalties and as mentioned above, is a complete lunatic on most nights.

Who else are we gonna play at that spot, the equipment manager?

Carcillo has 3 more minors than Upshall this year.

Probably most Flyer fans will love this thug, what else is new, but I don't get the logic of offering the 2nd round pick. One would think for the price, there must have been a better asset available somewhere.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

We will embrace this guy in Philly, no doubt about it. But to give up a 2nd rounder as well? Not the best asset management in the world, to be sure.

Poile did sound disappointed about not being able to re-acquire Upshall, but the rumor around the arena last night was that Holmgren had called Poile during the game and asked for Ellis in return for the Upshall and 2nd package. I have a feeling that Poile was also asked to take back Niittymaki in that deal to serve as a backup to Pekka for the remainder of the season and balance out the salaries.

Ultimately it sounds like either Poile and Holmgren couldn't agree on the exact pieces in the deal or that Holmgren decided that the extra cap room provided by acquiring Carcillo was a better fit for his franchise to allow Giroux to remain up full-time and provide relief in the event of an injury.

I don't know enough about Carcillo to make a judgment, but I think a 2nd is overpayment.

I will miss Upshall though.

Truly sad to see Upshall go, but I'm gonna give Carcillo his fair chance.

It amazes me how valuable everyone thinks a 2nd round pick 3 drafts from now is.

That's not the point.

Upshall basically equals Carcillo. The draft pick makes it overpayment, whether its 3 years from now or not.

Given that I was figuring we might be competitive next year, and the following year, it may not be worthless, but it sure as hell is irrelevant. By 2016 we might see the player in the nhl.

OK I'll give you Upshall = Carcillo.

That makes a 2nd rounder 3 drafts from now a relatively insignificant overpayment.

Better?

Wow....If Poile walked from a Nittymaki/Upshall/2nd for Ellis package I would be speechless.

Holy ****! Carcillo on the loose in philly? At the very least this'll be entertaining.... The flyers weren't lacking in scoring... might've gone after a goalie, but I like this deal for them in terms of their playoff aspirations.. definately makes them more of a ***** to play against (great.. that's all we need )

No overpayment is insignificant when managing assets. NOW I feel better

2nd rounder is the fee to rent the $400-500K of annual cap space so the Flyers can actually carry more than 20 guys.

I would be too. Obviously there was definitely a dialogue between the two and I have a feeling that it wasn't Poile's choice that lead to a deal not getting done...ergo leading to his obvious disappointment this afternoon during his interview.

The point is, Upshall took plenty of needless penalties himself. Criticizing Carcillo before he even starts playing for taking penalties is misguided.

A pretty inventive trade that will work for both teams.

Upshall has 24 minors in 55 games I think, and 27 minors for Carcillo in 54 games

It's practically a wash

Not that I don't agree with you, but most Flyers fans WILL love this guy. He's basically a better skating version of Steve Downie, and you would have thought half the Philly fan base died when he was traded.
