Nedved Thread Overload!!

Nedved is gone. That is all. Lets talk 1st or 2nd line center. Putting aside the centers with head injuries that are in the Oilers budget range. There are still alot of teams out their willing to deal. If we concentrate on what the needs of our dance partners are we can probably see the forest through the trees.

Federov- 3 years at 25 Million left on his contract makes him impossible to trade.

Joe Thornton- Pipedream. Rumored to be unhappy. Chances are slim. We'd have to pay a hefty price to get him too.

Jeremy Roenick- Not enough golfing to keep him happy here.

Oli Jokinen/Stephen Weiss- Hefty trade price but this is a realistic plan B imo.

Victor Kozlov- Hes not exactly untouchable. Definatley a post CBA trade there. Plan E

Chris Gratton- This guy is like one of those little rubber balls that bounce everywhere. Why not here too. He is an inigma. As long as you dont pay alot to get him. Although he might just piss Oiler fans off with his soft play.

Nik Antropov- Brad Isbister in a Leafs uni. We love these reclamation projects. Maybe Nik would break out? Maybe not. see Chris Gratton.

Well thats about it from me. Hope you guys have better ideas. There isnt alot out there we can afford. I would love to have Federov though. Same with Jokinen or Weiss.

Heres a stab at a potential deal. Federov to the Oilers for Pisani, Matt Greene and 2 second rounders. Anahiem pays 3.5 Mil a year for the remaining 3 years.

Im not very good at this obviously.

wow. Federov for Pisani, two 2nds and a prospect AND they're paying over half his salary...where do I sign!?

As for a trade to get us that #1 center, I really think Florida is our best bet in terms of trading partners given their abundance of centers. Somebody in another thread mentioned Brewer being a possibility (although I don't want to lose him by any means) and, in the right package, he could easily bring us Jokinen, Weiss, or Horton.

I still think Phoenix made a bad trade, but they had the right idea by using the free agent market to pick up a player where they had considerable depth and trading a roster player to address their needs without losing any depth at center. Since there aren't a lot of quality free agent defencemen, and lots of forwards, I think the best bet is to aquire a free agent winger who may be had for around the 3 million we were going to pay Nedved, and trade one of our wingers for a defenceman to replace Brewer who would be traded to aquire the center we need in Jokinen/Weiss/Horton, or to trade for a center without sending Brewer anywhere. If any of that doesn't make sense I'll try to give an example.

- Sign Selanne (assuming he'll sign for around 3M)
- Trade Hemsky for B. Jackman (assuming it's of fair value, to be honest I'm not sure)
- Trade Brewer for Jokinen/Weiss/Horton as the main parts of the deal

These are just examples, but it's a way to address our center needs without signing a free agent center or creating holes by trading assets.

Smyth - Jokinen - Selanne
Torres - York - Dvorak
Moreau - Reasoner - Pisani
Horcoff - Stoll - Isbister

Smith - Jackman
Staios - Semenov
Ulanov - Bergeron

The problem with Federov is that he can opt out of his deal after this season!

TheSpecialist - MacT thinks he was that good of a hockey player when in actuality he was no better then a Louie Debrusk.

Guys I wouldn't mind seeing added to the plan B/C/D/E/F .... (in no particular order)

- Kvasha, Ribeiro, Steffan, Vasicek, Arnason, Bell, Smolinski, Spezza , Vermette

For the record, I like the idea of Weiss the most myself.

Spezza and Bell are pretty much untouchable to their respective teams. I'd say no chance there.

Vasicek or Riberio would be great, but again I don't see us getting either without really overpaying.

Maybe we can get Marchant back?

Maybe Kolanos or Taffe would be more realistic? Kris Beech from Pittsburgh? Those obviously aren't great solutions but I'm just throwing more names into this thread.

God forbid Lowe is going to try and find another sub-par solution by signing someone like Zholtok or Reichel.

With all the people calling for Lowe's head yesterday and saying how ******** of a GM he is, how much do you want to bet that when Lowe signs/trades for a center, everyone will claim that he is a genius and he's underrated as a GM.

Well hopefully Lowe does something... but really I'm hoping for one of Florida's young centres Jokinen/Weiss/Horton ... I really hope Lowe tries and gets a young centre who we can actually build around because the stop gap solutions he has tried to use have NOT worked... and I was fairly sure Nedved was not going to work either... now the question I'm going to ask is if trading Brewer brought back one of these young centres we're looking for... would YOU do it?

That would depend on the trade, I guess.
