People are forgetting about O'Sullivan's off ice issues. He's an emotionally disturbed and moody individual, good riddance....

Maybe disturbed and moody. All we really know about him is that he's quiet.

If Kotalik has even a moderate amount of success with Hemsky I think they will try to keep him. The endless quest for a "superstar" has to end for this team. They have too many bad contracts (Penner and Horcoff namely) to make it happen. The only hope is for Hemsky to reach his potential and become a 90 point guy year to year. Players with fewer tools that Kotalik have managed to find good fits and put up wacky offensive numbers. Anson Carter with the Sedins anyone?

O'Sullivan is another under 25 guy (Cogliano, Nilsson, Gagner, Brule, Pouliot and Jacques). You have to think the Oilers will look to pedal a guy like Nilsson at the draft to move up the order or at least flip a couple of these guys in a 2 for one deal. Good stock pile of cheap, young offensive players. Not a lot of size there though.

Penner is still the albatross. If there is anyway they can just clear his contract at this point they will do it. Someone who gets shut out of free agency next summer may take a flyer on him. Those two years left at 4.25 when the cap goes down is pretty hard to manage though.

I say the Oilers and Hurricanes won while LA lost and Buffalo = meh

Oilers get the best player, Hurricanes get a guy they know they can win with.

LA get's a high risk/ high reward player who hasn't been able to stay healthy

I liked Lombardi's do-nothing offseason a lot better. When it comes to the deadline, he really sucks.

It was really a 5-way trade, consisting of 4 trades.

As a Kings fan, I hate this trade. We dont need another injury prone player.

This is the second player (after Visnovsky) that Dean Lombardi signs to a multi-year deal only to trade away shortly thereafter. I dont like it one bit.

Even funnier because that 2nd went to Toronto for D. Moore. Alas, the joke's on us. It wasn't Calgary's 2nd that went to Edmonton, so the paper trail stops there. Nice try, though.

Visnovsky sounds pretty happy here. O'Sullivan came across a million times more excited then Kotalik did in the presser.

I like the deal for Edmonton. Not even looking at it for next year.

Kotalik and O'Sullivan both are outproducing Cole this year.

I wonder how the lines will shape up for the Oilers tommorow night. It'll be nice having a couple guys with good shots who like to shoot the puck. Both of these guys have more shots than any Oiler forward prior to tonight.

Another, who are the other ones? Dave Taylor was the one who was guilty of grabbing injured players.

And the Visnovsky deal has worked out well. Stoll and Greene have been awesome for this team.

Bingo. Stoll and Greene have worked out extremely well. Perhaps Williams' recent injuries have been flukes. The jury is still out.

Two things:

1. Anyone who said the Canes should have just kept O'Sullivan clearly has no idea about his past, and why he won't (and really can't) play in North Carolina

2. Whether Cole signs with Carolina in the off-season is irrelevant. This was a push to get Carolina into the playoffs. 20 games of a healthy player always beats out 20 games of a player on IR. The fact that Cole won't have an adjustment period here only helps. If he doesn't sign here after it's all over, a good salary dump for the Canes.

If Visnovsky was not injured, and we were still able to pull off this trade, we would have a lot more hype about the Oilers on this forum.

Sad to see Cole go...I loved watching him skate, he was pretty gritty (although probably nothing like his pre-injury days in CAR), he had alot of heart, drew a ton of penalties, solid defensively, etc...he was definitely better than his stats indicated.....but at the end of the day 25 pts or whatever just doesn't cut it. Not even close. Since his departure was imminent anyways, it's nice to get a solid, signed young asset for him.

O'Sully looks pretty talented and plays the PK and Kotalik's got a cannon and should help on the PP, maybe one of them meshes with Hemsky and with the added depth we can finally push a couple of scrubs down the line. All in all I'm pretty happy. But I wish Cole the best of luck. I really do. After a decade of Smyth, always and to this day I only want to see him fail, but after 6 months of Cole I wish him all the success in the world. Class Act. I'm going to watch a few more Carolina games down the stretch and I hope he finds his scoring touch again.

I think as an oiler fan--the fact Cole was leaving after this seasin and Sullivan is signed for a few more and wont qualify UFA for a few more years is a win for th oilers
