I think what really matters is what will the playoff lineup going to be. Cote is more than likely going to continue to play on the team for the remainder of the regular season but the question is who takes his spot come playoff time. Last season he played 70 regular season games but only 2 playoff games. I think Carcillo will get a shot to replace Upshall on the third line with Briere and Giroux. For tomorrows game a fourth line of Cote - Powe - Asham would not surprise me but i think come playoff time it will be
(Ross/Nodl) - Powe - Asham
but only time will tell
I'm starting to get the feeling that Knuble won't be back, and that at least one of our two goalies, possibly both, will be gone. There will be a little money to use, mostly for signing a #1 goalie.
I love Noobsie, but this is his last season as a Flyer. It's a shame because he really fits a needed role, adds that veteran leadership, and is the among the most likable people possible. I'm going to be sad to see his days as a Flyer end. That said, he'll be 37, and the money he'd get would be better spent elsewhere. If he can get a good deal from another team, more power to him -- he should go get it (ala Dawkins). He'll always remain a Flyer.
Stevens like to make his lines into three man groups where each has a specific role. The three roles are the crease guy, the shooter and the set-up guy.
The first line this is easy to see with Knuble screening goalies and basically standing in front of or in the crease, Gags shooting and Richie setting both up.
I like this concept but somehow hit isn't really working out, mostly because we didn't have a third crease guy beside Knuble and Hartnell. The questions is whether Carcillo can fill that role.
I'd also like to change up the Carter line because Lupul is more of a shooter than a set-up guy and to be honest, the line has been quite cold recently. I think putting Giroux on Carter's wing could make some Magic happen.
Further I'd replace Richards with Brière on the top line. While this line is working out quite well, I think Richie would have an easier time making things happen with Carcillo and Lupul than Brière will.
I would make the lines the following:
Gagné - Brière - Knuble
Hartnell - Carter - Giroux
Carcillo - Richards - Lupul
Cote - Powe - Asham
^^ Didn't the Gagne-Briere-Knuble experiment fail last year, as brief as it was with Gagne getting injured early in the season? Knuble just isn't fast enough to keep up with them. Richards isn't the fastest skater either and slows down the tempo, which definitely helps Noobsie's game.
No way would I take Richards off the top line. I know Briere has looked decent since coming back, but let him atleast score a point before you put him back on the top line. The Gagne-Richards-Knuble line is on fire right now, its carrying the team like the Hartnell-Carter-Lupul line was carrying the team earlier. You can't break them up right now...plus I'd like to see Giroux and Briere together some more, I think they can develop some chemistry together since they both think faster than everyone else on the ice.
Carcillo goes to Upshall's spot next to Giroux and Briere. That line was being manhandled physically right away during the Bruins game, towards the end it was very evident. Carcillo should help to change that. I think he'll be a much better finisher than Upshall was too.
