I heard an interesting take on the radio the other day.

It was in reference to Columbus' powerplay being ranked 30th in the league and it was a take I know Rangers fans wouldn't consider but I thought was an interesting twist.

The guy was saying how if Columbus makes the playoffs, the powerplay can only be an asset to them because they've never had it all season long. So not scoring on it would be par for the course so to speak. If they did make the playoffs and knocked in a few goals it would be a huge plus.

It made me think of the Rangers in this light because I've said it a million times, since the lockout this league is all about special teams. If these new additions (Torts included) can help the powerplay at all, we really should be a better team.

Yeah, I gotta say that I don't buy it. It's even more important to score on PP chances in the playoffs, so if yours isn't working, you're not likely to advance.

Since the deadline has come and gone and it is obvious this team wants to win now rather than maybe now and later, it's time for everyone to want the Rangers to win instead of all those guys coming in here and saying I hope the Rangers lose to prove a point (myself included). So it's time to buckle down because I need some playoff hockey in my life, regardless for how long I get that wish.

LETS GO RANGERS!!

4-1 Fishstick win.

Rangers give up two PP goals as a result of two, too many men on the ice penalties. One occured when Torts yelled out Nik and both Zherdev and Antropov (on two separate lines) jump onto the ice.

One goal is scored because Derek Morris, still not used to the Rangers colors throws an inadvertent pass to Okposo who beats Hank while all alone in front of the Rangers net.

To add insult to injury, Torts and Avery fight in between the second and third periods when Torts first words out of his mouth in the locker room were, that was a sloppy second period, boys!

Does Avery get his first chant tonight at the Coliseum? Or does it actually take until Sunday at the Garden?

I agree. I guess it's more wishful thinking on my part. I do think it's obvious if this team can start scoring on the powerplay they are a MUCH different team.

Well we know all the newcomers are playing for sure since we wouldn't have enough players to dress if even one of them is out.

Gross is reporting all three obviously play tonight.

He said Torts wants to keep Antropov at RW for now, and states, "figure he'll play on a line with Drury and Dubinsky..."

If that's right then it'll look like...

Naslund-Gomez-Zherdev
Dubinsky-Drury-Antropov
Avery-Korpikoski-Callahan

He also said Morris will be paired with Mara.

I think that's the most exciting part. In all honesty, the line that least excites me is the top one. I know Nazzy is our top scorer (before Antro got here) but he's invisible when he's not in the offensive zone. Gomez...blahhhhhhhhhhhhh. So inconsistent. And Z hasn't done anything lately.

That second line really excites me.

And the third line I think will be a great energy line but the part that is great is Korpi seems to be improving every day, and Avery and Cally have the ability to put the puck in the net.

We have three lines that have the POTENTIAL to score. Not saying they will but there's potential. That's something we haven't been able to say all year.
