Question: Gary Roberts

Is it theoretically possible that he could go on waivers again, get picked up, and play in the playoffs? Or is that it for him?

I don't think any player plucked off waivers now can play again this season or post-season.

I wonder if any of the players were immediately put on re-entry waivers. If a claim went in before the deadline I believe they would be eligible to play in the playoffs. It could have just not been reported or lost in the deadline hype. I guess we'll see at 1pm

That's it. He cannot play in the playoffs with anyone but Tampa.

Those players were placed on waivers on Tuesday, and cleared on Wednesday. To be on re-entry waivers, those players would have (A) had to been assigned to the minors, and then (B) recalled from the minors; however, none of those players would have been claimed until today. Thus, it would have been a waste of time as even if [insert playoff team] claimed [insert player waived on Tuesday] on recall waivers, that player wasn't part of that team [on the Reserve List in any way] at 3:00pm on Wednesday - and as such, the player would be ineligible to play in the playoffs for that team.

What good would that do? The only possible outcome of that is Gary getting pissed off and ripping people's heads off.

I'm a bit surprised no one took a chance on him for 4th line duty.

I think the LEafs definitely should have claimed him, if anything just for the lulz.

I think it had something to do with the fact that his cap hit was well over 2M, since the clever folks in Tampa management decided to give him a bonus of $10,000 for every game he played.

Older players like Roberts need to sign cheaper contracts if they want to play in the NHL.
