Dowd ... no thanks.

Demitra ... would be terrific. But so far out of the Oiler's price range that it isn't even funny.

Demitra would be nice. Lets see, 11 million for 2 years should do it.

Dowd = heck no. I'd love to see Demitra in an Oilers uniform but he's probably going to command a lot more money than we could afford. I wonder if the Oilers could afford to dole out $4 million/year though... it would probably still be quite a bit too low but a guy can dream can't he?

Demitra would be awesome in Oilers silks - but out of our price range for sure.

If Lowe was even considering re-aquiring Jim Dowd to fill our hole at centre, I'd not only be crossing Kevin's name off my Christmas card list, I'd be chopping down the freshly trimmed spruce tree in his front yard too.

Why would we need him when we have Stoll, Horcoff, and Reasoner? The team needs a top 2 center... not a 3rd line center.

I know this is a longshot, but...

If we were to sign Cory Stillman as a UFA, we would be increasing our LW depth. Because of that, we would be in a greater position to deal from a position of strength. So we could package a big salary (Isbister) along with someone else of value for the #1 center that we need.

The downside of course is that we would have to sign Cory for $3.2 million or else hope that Tampa doesn't match our offer. Then again, maybe they won't bother if they feel they have plenty of forward depth. If we dump Isbister's and someone else's salary, either Brewer's or Smith's, it would more than offset Stillman's. Then it would create more room for whomever we acquire.

Like I say, it is a longshot, but does this theory have any legs?

I don't think Tampa has any intention of matching offers for Stillman, as they have reaquired Prospal, unless Stillman agreed to a stupidly low offer around 1.5 or therabouts. But even with that, there could be a deal with TBay set up where they'd get a pick or something for not matching it.

I for one didn't hate Dowd, he was a hardworking Oiler who won a few draws. But he wasn't good enough to protect in the last expansion draft, and 57 goals in 500 career games doesn't suggest that he's the answer to this teams many problems.

Demitra would be a whole different kettle of fish, but I don't think it would be healthy for people to start dreaming of another high profile free agent. Haven't we bled enough and shed enough tears hoping for what NEVER happens???

I have a feeling that Lindros may end up here. Why?

1. Leafs won't sign him
2. THere are no other teams interested in him
3. MacT and Big E are good friends
4. And I do believe that both Smyth and Lindros will be dynamic duo.

The things that I worried about:

1. Health
2. His parents.
