I like Wiz but I think the injuries are catching up with him because he doesn't look the same after the last injury. Kontiola will probably end up back in Europe. Pahlsson gives us a solid checking center who's good on faceoffs and will be valuable come playoff time so this trade while not spectacular fills a need.
I don't like this trade considering how far Sami's play has dropped since winning the Cup and the fact that we gave up 2 RFAs and a pick for 1 UFA.
Wiz is a fan favorite and adds a lot to a 3rd pairing. Even coming off serious offseason surgery he is on pace to outscore Sami this season and I think next year Kontiola might too. Wiz hits, fights, blocks shots, plays solidly at both ends and has his own clothing line ().
Tallon took a major gamble here IMO. Sami's value was probably at an all time low, as were Kontiola's and Wisniewski's, so I think this move will look pretty bad for us 1-2 years in the future. It's not as if Wiz or Konti were up for big raises this summer.
Those are pretty much my thoughts on it as well. I think adding a guy with Pahlsson's experience is a great thing for the young Hawks. However, I do think Tallon gave up too much, especially when you consider that Sami hasn't played in a while and still has to get back in 'game shape,' not to mention his pending UFA status.
I think the Ducks win this one especially since Pahlsson said he would "absolutely" consider resigning with the Ducks. The odds of this happening, slim to none. Burke will offer him alot more then Murph.
