09/10 Flyers Predictions

Well after the current trade, I started to think of what we might be doing next year. I know there are tons of things that could happen during that time, such as signing the rest of our guys, the draft, and free agency. Just wanted to know what other people thought was going to happen. You do you think we will trade. We are still close to the cap, so what do we do? Who will make a fight for a spot on the big team. Should be trade for more picks during this draft? Who would you pick with our #1, if Homer really keeps it . Just wanted to get people out of the damn Upshall thread and try getting something else going.

EDIT: This is just for ones opinions.. take it either way.. us losing in the first round of playoffs or winning the stanely cup. Was just wondering what people thought was going to happen....damn

Well probably trade Carcillo for a 3rd rounder.

Hey man, I just wanted to talk about something. Not really worried. Alot of the other team's boards have this thread, and its just to discuss what you think might happen... This is a board to discuss the Flyers.. some people around here gotta relax

I'll run with it sa cyred!

So much for trying to get over the Upshall trade.

This is just my opinion of things that will happen so please dont jump all over me saying how wrong I am.

Major moves and signings...
Lupul gets traded. (maybe in a package for a goalie?)
Knuble gets signed to a 2 year deal(around 2.25 a year)
JVR makes the team. I hear he will make something like 2.5M? Maybe Im wrong?
Sbisa makes the team.
Jones goes nowhere.
Biron and Nitty are both let go.

Gagne-Richards-Knuble = $13.25M
Hartnell-Carter-Giroux = $10.022M
Carcillo-Briere-JVR = $9.894M(assuming JVR makes 2.5M)
Powe- ? -Asham = $1.895M(assuming Center makes 750K)

Timonen-Parent = $7.188M
Coburn-Carle = $4.738M
Jones-Sbisa = $3.625M

Forwards- $35.149M
Defense- $15.511M
Total- $50.66M

That leaves 6 million a starting goalie, a backup, a 7th dman and an extra forward. Yuck.

I could be way off lol.

Jones-Sbisa = $3.625M

Forwards- $25.168M
Defense- $15.511M
Total- $40.179M

That leaves enough room to sign a starting goalie, a backup, a 7th dman and an extra forward or 2.

I could be way off lol.
Is it me or that team much worse than the team we saw 2 days ago?

It all depends on the starting goalie. It could be markedly better.

Well the top 2 lines and top 2 pairings are almost exactly the same(giroux next year should be as good or better than lupul has been this year). The 3rd line is finally a big 3rd line, which a 3rd line should be, aside from briere. And that line can score more than the one we have this year. If we use the significant cap space to get a good goalie we're clearly better.

Giroux is a year better.
Sbisa is a year older and better and wont be a deer in headlights.
JVR is as good or better than Giroux has been in his rookie year.
Parent is a year better(that top pairing could be sick)

Appreciate the effort, but you added your forwards up wrong. Add about $10M. So that leaves you about $6M (if the cap stagnates) to sign 2 goalies and extra skaters.

For a goalie, what I'd like them to do is scout Europe and see if we can't find someone like Antti Niemi like the Blackhawks got, or even a different version of Nicklas Backstrom, although he was too old for an ELC. Anyways, it is a cheap, but viable option.

We need to solve teh goalie situation. We have a great young core with a few solid veterans

But we can not keep going with a 2-goalie merry-go-round

flyers draft centers and goalies. as for the guys n the roster they dance with the girl that brung em. i think its the opposite of tradition where we are building from the front back. last year forwards. this year defense next year goalies.

Joffrey Lupul is traded at the draft for Josh Harding
Knuble signs elsewhere
JVR is signed and makes the team.
Sbisa makes the team
Alberts is resigned(it wouldnt be Holmer if he didnt make one questionable at best re-signing)
Veteran backup is signed for cheap money(Kolzig?)

If you have a close-knit team who wants to win, with good coaching and a team who plays consistent defense, yes you can win with 2 goalies.
