Carter - hasnt done **** since december...hes netted to occasional goal but has not been the same player we saw in the first half.

Briere - what more can i say?

Jones - worst dman in the league when you take his contract into consideration.

Lupul - Only plays when he wants it seems.
Carter was overachieving at that point quite a bit. Are you disappointed that he finally came back to earth? Im not. I expected it.

Has anyone said he didnt have turnovers?

Like I said hes our best player and he is always going to try too much. Ovechkin leads his team in turnovers. Malkin leads his team in turnovers.

Hopefully as he ages he will control them more but even if he doesnt his positives far outweigh his negaitves

richards was a turd tonight. you know he will dominate the next game though.

Am I crazy to think Asham had a great game? Giroux was also exciting to watch

Unfortunately with Briere hurt, we can't afford Carter to be back on earth for too long. Richards can't be the only centre worth a damn on this team.

Brutal game from him, though.

like i said im not saying hes a bad player, hes a great player, but i am concerned with the amount of turnovers he has per game. it is a problem and i hope that it gets fixed, bc i dont want a richards turnover to cost us a playoff game or anything like that

im sure this seems like a knee jerk thing bc of tonights game, but its not its been going on for a while...i know sometimes he tries to carry us on his back, which is fine, but you still cant try to do too much, bc that is how you can hurt your team

he will figure it out im sure, i just hope its sooner rather than later

and whoever brought up joffrey lupul thank you, the guy just doesnt seem to care, but thats for another thread on another day

i.e., players that are good when they have the puck and are near the top of their team in ice time. Really not a surprise, Richards is a possession center, he doesn't make the pass quickly enough, maybe, but if he gets a rush with the puck, things can happen.

The biggest problem tonight were the passes in the neutral zone that went right between the opposing D. Splitting the defense isn't easy, no matter how many 'moves' or dekes a guy knows. At that point it needed to be addressed, passes should have gone to the wings (and not just Richards and his line), or pucks should have been dumped in.

Yep. Guys that play a lot of minutes and have the puck a lot are going to have a lot of stats in their favour - not just the good kind, either.

Tonight was especially bad for Richards and sometimes he forces plays like he thinks he's more skilled than he is - usually in games where the team is playing like ****.

Well I think part of the reason is that teams are watching him and checking him tighter then they were before. It takes a couple months for teams to really catch on, but once they do, its alot tougher to get that space that Carter neeeds/had to score goals at the pace he was.

Good list. I was about to look up how he matched up with other players in the league, and you read my mind.

Honestly I don't think its THAT big of a problem. Richards has the puck more than ANYONE on our team besides maybe Timonen...he's going to turn the puck over more than others because of that.

That surly doesn't account for all of it, because I can definitely see where the OP is coming from. Richards needs to work on his passing on breakaways, I think he shoots it too often when he usually has a guy or 2 that he can pass to. Also, like the OP said, he needs to protect the puck more, especially in center ice. We saw it in today's game, and before, where he will try to set up a play in center ice, and it gets taken from him.

With all of that being said, I think Richards "turnover problem" is not nearly our biggest problem, and he more than makes up for it not only on the offensive side of the ice, but on the defensive as well...don't even think that needs to be said.

yeah, he played w/ his head up his arse tonight...the team as a whole refuses to recognize that there are teams/games where you can not make to long breakout passes or skate it up ice...there are nights when you have to dump and chase then outwork the other team...this team gets lazy and wants to score on the rush too often when it is not there...put the puck in the corner and make guys like vandy 7 aucoin try to handle the puck.

Here's a complementary article .... to rebalance the universe:

http://www.puckprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=35

Richards the 5th most valuable forward in the whole NHL (12th overall). Gagne (8th, 15th) and Carter (11th, 21st) also on the list.

Richards was indeed dreadful tonight. It's not a personal affront to say so.

We already have our post of the year with that guy who said "do the math!" but this certainly has to be a runner up.

certainly no argument there....we have many problems, most of which are too complex to make a thread about lol...i was pointing out a small problem that can be fixed, and i am pretty sure will be fixed

by starting this thread i was just pointing out a topic for discussion, since i thought thats what message boards were here for.... im not trying to start a debate about how richards can turn it over as long as he does other things well or anything like that

i think he turns it over too much and it concerns me...thats the point of the thread...hopefully i cleared up any confusion about what i am saying here....im not trying to hate on mike....hes our best player, i know we have tons of other problems, but i am addressing one of them

that site lost all of its credibility when i saw that kimmo was not in the top 15 for d-men....and is behind ian white, filip kuba vlasic, and quincey)

but....thats my opinion

I suppose I should use this guy http://hfboards.com/images/smilies/ssst.gif in the future. I assumed, however, in this case it was obvious enough without it.

Um ... Timonen is not in the top 30 defenseman in goals scored or points, 18th in assists, and 25th in +/-. Not sure what other stats go into it ... he hasn't published an article explaining the stat yet, but it's not hard to believe a statistical based analysis leaves Kimmo out of the first 15.
