The official Lightning 2009 Draft picks thread

By my count, we have 7 2009 draft picks, 8 depending on the status of Dallas's 4th rounder. Feel free to correct any errors, and add any comments
_______________________________________
1. 1st rounder

SJ's 1st rounder (traded to Ottawa in Kuba deal)

2. 2nd rounder

3. PHI's 2nd rounder (acquired from PHI last year in Prospal deal)

3rd rounder (belongs to PIT since we from Malone trade since we signed him)

4. FLA's 3rd rounder (acquired in Eminger deal)

SJ's 3rd rounder (traded to PHI in Carle deal)

5. 4th (belonged to Philly until we re-acquired the pick in Carle deal)

? DAL's 4th rounder (unsure about this one, we originally acquired this pick from Brad Richards deal then MIN sent us Brian Rolston's rights for 2009 or 2010 conditional draft pick (conditional on whether Rolston re-signs with Lightning) someone clear this up please)

CAR's 4th rounder (acquired in Jokinen trade, sent to TOR in salary dumping move)

5th rounder (traded to Pens for defenseman Michal Sersen)

6. NSH's 6th rounder (we get this pick if Tarnasky plays 55 or less games this season. It would have turned into NSH's 5th round pick if Tarno played 55 games or more. But even though he is in Florida I am sure the condition has to be in effect, as its not Tampa's fault Nashville traded him to Florida. Tarno has played 38 games so far. Florida has played 64 games, and is playing the 65th game against the Pens as I type this. Tarno is not in the lineup. So basically he would have to play in every game for Florida for the rest of the season to reach the 55 games mark, and since its very doubtful he will play every single game from now on till the end of the season)6th rounder (traded to Flyers for Niskala)

7. 7th rounder

Looks correct.

Our 5th (now with Pittburgh) may go to the Islanders. The Guerin deal is based on how far the Pens go. If they don't make the playoffs, then they'll get that fifth.

Also, our own 6th was traded for Janne Niskala.

I don't remember an announcement ever being made as to what the conditions were for the Rolston trade. The media dropped the line of questioning when he wasn't signed.

good that we have some picks in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round this year. Last year we had 1, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7.

If Tampa ends up with the third pick, do you think they'd consider moving down two or three spots, considering that Duchene is probably the consensus pick at that spot, and the Lighting are fresh off the selection of their newest franchise center, in Stamkos, while still having Vinny tied up for the better part of the next decade? Might wingers like Paajarvi, or Kane, or a defenseman like Cowen be a bit of a better fit?

Obviously, the answer is entirely dependent on the return. Would the five or six, plus a late first, and possibly a future second be enough, do you think?

Many think Paajarvi or a d-man. If we can trade down for a decent top 4 guy and a few picks, though, i'd consider it for sure.

The return like you said, the 5 or 6 with a late one and future second wouldn't be bad at all. Don't think anyone gives up that much, though.

Still hangin' in there. She was a devil, most recently, though. I was an adorable honey-bee, this time. Personally, I think I was cuter, but unfortunately, have no pics.

It has been years, hasn't it? At least, what, three? Post your Halloween costume, thread, right? I should've known my girlfriend would garner more attention than my awesome banana costume.

I just think Duchene would be a perfect fit in Phoenix, what with Matthew "fourty points" Lombardi being our new number one center, and our current number two, Steve "fourty points" Reinprecht on the way out this summer. Turris will get there, but it'll take a couple of years. Duchene seems a lot more ready. Having a one-two punch like that in the future, doesn't sound all that bad, either.

It looks right to me. But I read that our 6th turns into a 5th if Tarnasky plays 55 games. I think I read it on Damian's blog but Im not sure. Either way I just read it yesterday.

Is that right?

Ya, it was on Damian's blog.... here it is:

Quote:
FYI: here are the Lightning's draft choices, a first-rounder, two seconds, a third, a fourth, and sixth from the Predators that could become a fifth if Nick Tarnasky plays 55 games, and a seventh.

It is correct but I believe Tarnasky would have to play in every single Panther game left to hit 55 and its not likely considering he's terrible.

That would be correct.

Ooh, and he's on pace for 2 more points in that time.
