I don't think there is any gap at all, and if there is one, it favors New Jersey. Here are their top eight forwards (in scoring, anyway):

Parise
Elias
Langenbrunner
Zajac
Gionta
Zubrus
Clarkson
Rolston

Here are the Flyers' top eight:

Carter
Richards
Gagne
Hartnell
Knuble
Lupul
Asham
Giroux

It's not too hard to see who's better equipped up front.

Mistakes are the killer, to be sure, and one could reasonably conclude that they might make fewer because of system.

HOWEVER:

- defenseman aren't listed above, and Timonen seems to be clearly atop the heap

- Briere isn't listed either - he's just a plain wildcard now

- they lead us in the standings by virtue of "overtime losses" - we have 10, they have 3

Do you mean that the Flyers are lucky to be so close to the Devils given that they (the Flyers) have so many overtime losses?

No, he's saying if we weren't worse at the shootout than 3 pregnant blind women and an dwarf in net, we'd be closer.

Ah. Thanks.

Still, the Flyers have only lost five games this year via shootout, one being against the Devils.

10-4

I think what I am saying is that the points look wide andthe last game sure was discouraging but in the records, very little separates Flyers and Devils.
