I heard the Avs were about to deal Arnason for the Islanders 1st, but the deal fell through last minute.

I was expecting Afinogenov to get traded by the Sabres since they seem to be down on him but I didn't even hear a single rumor. Buffalo's GM is awful. Can't get any thing for Afinogenov. Gets rid of Kotalik who is one of Buffalo's best players. Connoly at 4.5 a season. WTF is going on up there?

If the Ponikarovsky deal is true, its just ridicilous that a trade doesnt happen because gm's cant make it in time... there is always plenty of time in deadline day so why cant they just start negotiations earlier.

Mostly because at the deadline there are a lot of reactionary moves made. Being that nothing really happened until 2:30 and Burke made three trades after that they may simply not having been able to haggle the deal quickly enough.

I wish this had happened. I want Lehtonen out of Atlanta.

it's at about the 4:20 mark of the audio interview.
One of the Rangers beat writers (might have been Zipay) said that a competing offer for Morris came from the Flyers and was Upshall+Carle

Sounds kind of off to me, but that's what was said

edit: yeah, it was Zipay who said that the Flyers were the main competition for Morris and that was their offer

Yeah, I heard early in the day that Ponikarovsky to Nashville was very close and I was expecting that to get done...it was so close that I considered running with it, but thought better of it...good thing...

I heard that rumor, too, but to me it doesn't make sense because Lehtonen is a RFA so there is no reason to worry about signing him to an extension.

Makes sense why the Caps wouldn't pull the trigger.

Actually, most Toronto fans were predicting a 2nd for Antropovsky, and about the same for Moore. From what I can see, the consensus was fairly accurate.

No...Frolov for Williams was never a deal. The original deal was O'Sullivan for Williams straight up, but it fell apart the night before the deadline because parts of the trade went public and Carolina backed out. That is why Lombardi had to throw in the 2nd rounder, to get Carolina talking again.

Check out insidesocal.com/kings for more in depth info about the whole thing. It's a few entries down. Rich Hammond was the one who blew the trade open by asking too many questions the nigt before, and he even apologized to Lombardi for basically single handedly costing him a 2nd rounder.

Yeah, it wasn't that bad. It was the Leaf fans who thought half the team would be gone that were disappointed. I was off on Antropov (I was thinking a first), but I misjudged the strength of the whole market. After the Guerin trade my expectations dropped pretty quickly. Moore got exactly what most people thought he would, so that seemed about right.

Max has no trade value. Kotalik was not one of our best players. Connolly is. Darcy had a good deadline.

McCabe is at the very least a good #3 defenseman who is signed for a couple more years at a slight overpayment. Add in a first, and there is no way, unless the Islanders were including their own first. Guerin without a NTC is worth a 2nd or 2nd+3rd, there isn't a team in the league who would have given their first for him. Let alone a borderline playoff team's 1st and one of their best players.

Also, I don't believe Washington could add Guerin without giving more up in cap dollars, but I am not sure on that.

How does McCabe and a 1st turn into Brashear and a 2nd and then into a conditional 4th?

this trade was actually speculated but the canucks backed out on this one

Jacque Martin wanted Raymond a first and Bieksa or Hodgson for Boumeester and Gillis said f' off. It was in the province newspaper yesterday.

It was Michael Nylander they were unloading (from Pierre McGuire). They had a deal in principle that fell apart, originally Guerin was on his way 3 or 4 days before the deadline, that's why he was pulled from the Islanders' roster so early.

did he have a NTC? if so, he may have wanted to goto a "true" cup contender

Than why did he choose the team that is below the other three (including NJ and Washington).
