Coyotes GM Don Maloney Breaks down their Trade Deadline Day Deals
Burke accuses Lowe of 'tampering' as feud still sizzles
Quote:
"It is our understanding that clubs are not entitled to express interest in the services of a player belonging to another NHL organization," Burke said. "Our understanding is that such an expression of interest constitutes tampering. We have asked the league to investigate whether a tampering episode has taken place."
Prucha was one of Maloney's all-time favorite Rangers and is a type of player Maloney believes brings a consistent effort to his game that will endear him to fans. Prucha's scoring production has decreased in recent seasons, but Maloney thinks, "a change of scenery is exactly what he needs."
there's lip service and then there is lip service...
The Joikinen deal doesn't look that great to me. Lombardi has blinding speed but the jury is still out if he will ever become an effective top 6 player. Prust, well, tough guys that aren't that tough and who already have a pretty major concern about concussions, aren't worth much. And that first rounder? 20th? Later? Sure it's an asset but history shows that it's more likely to be a marginal player than a star.
And all that for a legitimate #1 centre with good size. These 3 for 1 trades almost always just mean you are diluting a hard to get asset into 3 assets that anybody can get. I think Sutter won this trade.

I agree. I think the key is whether Maloney can trade that first for an established top 6 forward that can be in the lineup next season. Maybe on draft day. In my opinion, you can't trade your number 1 center (Jokinen) for a first next season, when you need as you say "hard" players now. Coyotes have a great lineup of young prospects and picks, but that first won't skate for the Yotes for 3-4 years. Maloney needs to transform that asset into a number one center now. Theres definitely a hole without both Jokinen and Keith Ballard in the lineup that needs to be filled immediately, not in 4 years.
No one in Phx understands getting Brust. Dime a dozen player. Would've rather had a low pick.
Matthew Lombardi definietly has potential, but doesn't replace Jokinen by himself.
Burke has already stated a million times, particularly in the recent interviews he has done about potential UFAs that expressing any interest in a player on another team's roster is tampering.
I don't think expressing interest of another player when your in trade talks is considered tampering. My understanding of tampering is expressing interest by contacting the player/agent about joining the team, not a blanket statement like "Who knows if player X could come back" type thing when you just traded him. It's obvious Morris wanted out, highly doubt he returns.

Morris didn't necessarily want out and never said he did. Wasn't like Jokinen who you knew didn't like it here and had to go. I think Morris liked the Coyotes and living in AZ. I think 1.) the Coyotes post All Star Break perfromance (from 5th to 15th in the West) may have soured his motivation to hang around for the last 20 games; 2.) he was unable to get the long term contract he wanted at this time from the Coyotes due to the ownership change issue. If that is resolved by July 1, who knows? He's definitely coming back West and not staying in NYC.

But I mean what does he know, right?
Burke the drama queen, I don't really read into that
I guess he just said it to spite all of the "knowledgeable" posters on this board
It generally depends on context;
When asked about a trade rumour, Brian Burke could respond, "Obviously Jay is a guy we would have liked to acquire, but the deal wasn't there" or something to that effect. But in tampering would be "we didn't acquire him at the deadline, so we'll make a push in the offseason for him"
interest is not tampering, expressing intent to pursue is.
It sucks for Coyotes fans that a heart-and-soul, emerging star like Keith Ballard got turned into a decent 2nd/3rd line center and a late first rounder. Lessons learned I suppose.
