Haha is this a serious post? Sykora's career high in penalties is 44 pims...8 years ago. So terrible, I know. Sykora is a bargain at $2.5.

Be sure to take the cap drop in 2010-2011 into effect as well

Deal Stall, better to get good assets for a third line center that has a lot of other GM's wanting him...

Kunitz-Crosby-Cheechoo
Caputi-Malkin-Sykora
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Talbot-Zigomanis-Adams

Gonchar-Eaton
Letang-Orpik
Gogs-Tollefsen

Fleury
Curry

Looks alright to me.
Forward lines look good. That's exactly my plan. Offer a 2nd + for Cheechoo.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to bring in a veteran to help Sid with the leadership off the ice so Sid can concentrate on leading on the ice and playing the game etc.

I think Ben Lovejoy has got to be given his opportunity in the NHL next season. He's already 25 years old. It'll be now or never for him next year imo.

I'd like to retain Scuds rather than Eaton, who - if we can deal him - I would like to replace with a more physical guy who can play second pairing defense. Still high on Witt for that position, and I think he and Letang could develop into something pretty nasty together. Hopefully Eaton keeps his present form going and creates a market for himself.
Now that Eaton seems to be fully recovered, I don't have much hesitation in saying that he's better than Scuds. He basically brings all the same traits, except that he's a better skater, can actually initiate a breakout, and sustain some offensive pressure. That's vital for Bylsma's style, and Scuds is a little too slow-footed and gets hemmed in his zone too easily for my liking.

Witt would be nice, but he's going to have a 3 mil cap hit for the next 2 years, and we'd have to part with decent assets to acquire him.

Agreed. But I think he should be worked in as a 7th dman and maybe have him as a #5-6 come '10-'11.

Sykora's agent said that he will ask 10.5M for 3yrs, so it's 3.5 cap hit per year..

NO WAY, I would pay that money for Sykora..I like him, I would like to see him in Penguins next season but 3.5M for Sykora who is gettin older and older is ridiculous !!!

I rather let Sykora go and sign Fedotenko for 2M per year..

It was written on TIOPS that Gonchar would sign the new 3year deal for 3.5-3.8M per season..

I know that it's just a rumor, but if Gonchar could sign for 3.8M, there's no way to sign Sykora for the almost same money..

I still think that Staal will be traded in the off-season..I think something like Staal+ for Horton+...the young long-term signed for the young long-term signed...

Or try to sign some FA, Gionta as a 1st line winger and Kovalev as a 2nd line winger..

I'm sure that's the plan, but I don't feel that they have anyone in the system right now who can fill that role.

Many pens fans will pencil in Caputi or some other prospect in the system as a top 6 winger for next season, but historically, young players who are capable of this have proven to be much more developed at this point in the prior season to their break out year. Sure, Caputi scored a goal on his first shift and all (which I'm sure some here will hype him as the second coming of lemieux), but he still has a lot of work to go before he is physically ready for the NHL level.

Unless somebody makes enormous strides from now until camp, they don't have that top 6 player in the system.

Besides, I'm sure everybody loves seeing good ol' number 9 lining up next to Crosby.

You're totally right. Caputi might still not be ready to be a full time top 6 player in the NHL. I think though that one of him, CPZ, or Tangradi needs to have a good year for the Pens.

It's very possible that none of them do, which will be unfortunate for the Pens, because the Pens will NOT be able to put together a legit top 6.

I don't think we'll see number 9 on a line with Crosby though.

Well remember 3.8 million wouldn't kick in until 2010. A big reason why it could be 3.8 million is because the cap will drop pretty considerably. Anyways that number would be huge for the Pens and would really help them re-sign Letang- who I think will get Suter numbers, regardless of the cap going down.

Bertuzzi(Knuble if we can afford him)-Malkin-Sykora
Cooke-Talbot-Kennedy
Jeffrey-Zigomanis-Adams

Gonchar-Orpik
Letang-Eaton(Upgrade if you can for his salary)

It's not about what they want to do, but what they can afford to do

Jeffrey's a center who is good at faceoffs. Not a LW.

well I guess he and Ziggy could split faceoffs and he could play the center position like Talbot did with Ziggy this year at some times. I see Jeffrey as the future 3rd line center and I wouldn't want to hinder his progress. Ziggy did play well as a faceoff taking RW earlier.

Maybe switch Talbot and Jeffrey.

BTW on Staal-
I think his value won't be that high at the draft this summer. I see him going either deadline 2009-2010, or during the 2010 draft.

Regardless, the Pens won't be able to afford to keep him. But they aren't going to be taking equal salary back.

I don't resign anyone, and trade Malkin for Roster Players.
I believe this team can't exist with Crosby and Malkin.

That's always the outsiders prospective. Trust me, if they were both on the Leafs you wouldn't be saying they should trade one of them.

Also amazing they can't co-exist since this will likely be their 3rd straight playoff appearance together.
