Jagr / Oilers Talk?

Allhockey.ru reports that according to Larry Brooks, Jaromir Jagr has signed a personal contract worth $7mln with the Oilers 2 days prior to the deadline and now he's asking the Avangard Omsk board to let him go even though he has a one year remaining on his current contract.

Wouldn't he have to pass through waivers to make it to the Oilers? If it's a $7M contract for the remainder of the season, the Canucks will claim him and screw over the Oilers. Payback for Glen Anderson!

I don't think he'd make it past Buffalo and Toronto, two teams with way more of an axe to grind with Lowe and the Oilers than Vancouver.

I can't believe I have to point this out to someone, but:

The Oilers can't claim a guy they put on waivers.

It says it would be for two years so that people would be hesitant to claim him. So if the Canucks claimed him they'd lose one of the Sedin's

If Jagr says he won't play with anybody but the Oilers would these teams still do it?

Hah, we'll just trade him back to the Oilers at the Draft.

Even better. They don't have to do anything then. Claim him, own his rights, screw the Oilers over, don't pay him because he won't report. Ideal.

IF Jagr was signed prior to the deadline, he'd be eligible to play in the playoffs with the team that held his rights when the deadline passed. However, it also means that he would have had to be placed on waivers after signing the contract - and rest assured, we would have heard about that.

If he was not signed prior to the deadline, then he can't play in this year's playoffs. Period.

Its already passed the trade deadline so he couldn't play in the playoffs and he would never pass through waivers.

also his KHL team just upset the number one team in the first round of the playoffs

And if the Oilers did it, they'd be at $51m for next year, without a goalie or half of their defence signed.

Yea but we can dump some salary from players who don't mean much like Staios and Penner, thats 7M right there.

Let's just get this waiver crap out of the way, because he's not coming to Edmonton this year. It was confirmed that Jagr had agreed to a contract for 2 years, but hasn't signed anything as of yet.

There is also confirmation that his club will let Jagr go next year due to financial problems, and rumor has it he has agreed in principle to sign in Edmonton in the off-season to be ready for next year.

That's all there is right now. There should be no talk about waivers, as it's a non-issue at this point.

I still dont know what the **** he is doing in the Russia. He has enough money. He could have passed several players on the NHL all-time points list if he would have stayed in the NHL.

He still had some gas left in the tank.

I hope the Oilers do this because it takes them out of the Bouwmeester situation this summer.

Not unless Lowebellini have more up their sleeves I don't expect Penner to play for the Oilers for much longer.

There's no way they even sign Bouwmeester in the first place.

They need to trade Gilbert to free up money for Grebeshkov, sign Smid, dump Staios, buy out Penner, and somehow sign Roloson for a discount.

All in all, that might free up 5 or 6 million. That's not going to be enough.

he said more than once that he liked the time he spent in Russia during the lockout and he would like to return. So he did.
