Rangers and the teams they battle standings possibilities tonight:
A regulation lose:
Canes will be 1 pt ahead of you with more wins but played one more game and the Pens will also be ahead of you because they have one more win than you. Mtl/Car/Fla/Pit/NYR/Buf
An Overtime lose:
Canes will have same amount of points as you but will have two more wins. You will pass Florida but played one more game. MTL/Car/NYR/Fla/Pit/Buf
An Overtime Win:
Rangers goes to 5th place. Will play one more game than MTL/FLA and have equal amount of games place with PIT but have a game in hand in Canes. Also Canes stays in 9th place. NYR/Mtl/Fla/Pit/Car
A Regulation Win:
See above (overtime win) but Canes will have one less point than Fla/Pit.

Biggest game we've had in a while, Carolina is coming off a huge win in Tampa. Lets make the streak 4. LETS GO RANGERS!

I'd say it is, when you're playing a team that's trying to catch you in the standings. You guys are only one point up, and a game in hand.

Huge game. Valiquette needs to come up big today. No more 10-2 games.

Agreed. Play Valiquette against Nashville. Lundqvist gets 4 days off before Philly.

Renney would be getting ROASTED if he played Vally tonight.

The double-standards are fun to follow though.

I don't like Vally in this game. He should've played against Philly instead. Hopefully he'll come up huge though.

Most here disagree with the goalie choice, what's the double standard with that.

I think it's good that Vally plays tonight... Think people are placing too much thought into the fact that they are playing Carolina. Carolina has many games to do well or do poorly... If we get in the playoffs, the chance that it is related specifically to how Carolina does is small.

The Rangers will get in or be out of the playoffs based on how they play, not whether Carolina wins.

I think what is most taxing on a goalie is playing the back to back games. Playing Vally tonight over Henrik keeps Henrik sharp because he's not sitting out too many days, but also doesn't really kill him with the back to back games.

Anyway, Torts said early on that he would rely on Benoit Allaire in regards to Henrik playing, so this is really Benoit's call.

That's his point. If Renney was the coach, they'd be blasting him for playing Vally tonight, but they are happy with it with Torts as coach.

...

How is it that most of the posters here disagree with Torts decision equate to them being happy with it?

I would've let Vally get the game against Nashville so Henrik has a nice break before the back to backs against Philly.
