Flyers lose a Scout

Evgeny Zimin, Flyers Russian scout has signed with HC MVD (Russia) to be the Director of Player Development/Chief Scout.

Zimin has been loyal, if anything to the Flyers, but we all know how well he scouted Russians.

Maybe he could've gotten it right on Bodrov.

$$$ ruled the world in his case. While the info was correct when I gave you, his stance changed.

With the amount of ice time he is getting in Atlant, and the Flyers current CAP situation, he would be crazy NOT to show up at camp next year. Also, what I think contributed to the whole situation is that he changed agents after the debacle in Omsk.

Who is this guy?

I will guess that since we have no russians on the roster, he wasnt very good, haha.

Oh well.

wait, we had a russian scout?

considering how poorly they draft from there, i'm not sure it was a big loss.

Wow, I came in here expecting to read a sad story about a dead scout. Not so bad I guess.

so do you mean that he's not getting a lot of ice time in Atlant? How's he doing with the ice time he's getting? I thought I read a some things about him being a problem or something along those lines earlier in the year...

Considering we had Clarke as GM... anyways, Zimin knows hockey, his problem was his age - there was absolutely no way that he was traveling to see majority of the players that the team was interested in.

I think Flyers will actually improve their drafting of the Euros in general and Russians in particular. At the same time, I think Bodrov is key to it - if he shows up, Flyers continue looking at Russians, if he does not...

No, would not call him a problem - he stopped getting ice time in Lada (along with their other top D man - Vorobiev) - both of them had hefty salaries and Lada could not afford them. He received no explanation from the coaches and kinda went off on them in the press. Both were traded to "richer" clubs - Vorobiev to Salavat (I think) and Bodrov to Atlant. Both clubs were at the top of the standings with well established defense.

So far in playoffs Bodrov has been in 3 games and averaged 6:39 TOI with one assist. He did not play in today's game.

Wow, that's not much ice time. Is he only signed through this year?

It would probably make sense for him to come over next year if this is what his future in in Russia is going to be.

BTW, thanks a lot for the info.

Maybe it's just temporary leave until we decide we're tired of an all Canadian/American/Finnish team.

I hate to sound Don Cherry, but I'm not sold on Russians in a long greuling, (is that how it's spelled?) playoff series. Same with the Czechs

If you ever look at "In the system" on the Flyers website we have two 27 yr. old Russian players from draft picks from quite a few years ago

Drozdetsky was all Hammarstrom. I think Bill Meltzer wrote the piece on HF some years ago when he was drafted. Hammarstrom thought he was so good, and sold him to Clarke, so much that Clarke was prepared to take him in the 1st round (they ended up with Justin Williams). Hammarstrom then decided that he didn't feel he was scouted properly, so then sold Clarke on NOT taking him, and to wait until later on. So he felt he was so good, but be like 'you know what, actually..." Could you imagine that scene?
