Bowman comments on Don Lever

I was watching RIS and Reneaud Lavoir was there and he spoke with Bowman today. He asked him about Don Lever because Bowman knows him pretty well. Bowman said that Lever is one hell of a coach, Bowman recommended Lever to Gainey to be the headcoach of the Hamilton Bulldogs. He also said that he thinks that Lever is the perfect man to coach the Montreal Canadiens!

You just have to watch RDS later, and you'll see much more quote from Bowman on Lever!

Yeah I checked that out on Rds' site. Wow... when the best coach of all time is pushing for you it's +1000 on your side.

Edit: Le baron is an idiot.

Now THAT'S an endorsement. Sure beats the hell out of getting endorsed by Le Baron.

Scotty also thinks Blake was the greatest coach ever. It's a toss up between those two. I lean towards Toe.

I am sure he will take some French course during the summer at least to have the basic. Then the French medias will shut up at least for the tongue.

Also i do not want to see them laughing at him if he try to speak French. Je serais en beau crisse....

BUt we need a coach with experience!!!!

(somebody whispers ''he's got over 20 years of experience in coaching'')

Yeah, but we need someone with NHL experience!!!!

(somebody whispers ''he's got over 10 years of experience as assistant coach in the NHL'')

Yeah, but we need someone with headcoaching experience!!!!!

(somebody whispers ''he's got over 7-8 years of experience as headcoach in the AHL'')

That still makes him a rookie in the NHL!!!!

(somebody whispers ''yeah but Scotty Bowman says he'S the best choice for Montreal)

HE doesn't speak FRENCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why am I not surprised to see Scotty endorse Lever. NICE!!!!!!!!

The only people who dont know about the quality of coach that is DL are the 15 year olds who roam these boards and the losers in the French Media, which pretty much is of similar intelligence.

With that kind of experience, I bet he could last at least 2 full years in Montreal. That could be a modern day record.

Thing is Lewis got two chances in Detroit and Boston, Lever needs to at least get one and it makes sense in to do it in Montreal with his relationship with the core of young players already and the team probably looking very different next year due to the UFA status on this team. He would almost be starting with a clean slate of veterans and his own players from Hamilton who have graduated to the Habs.

From what I remember today, Scotty didn't day Lever was the perfect man to coach the Canadiens. He recommended him to coach Hamilton and said he was constant and he was a winner. But it was coming from Scotty and that does give a lot of praise to Lever. It was the RIS/RDS crew today that were saying with what Scotty said about his coaching and the experience he's earned with his 12 years as an assistant in the NHL and the head coaching he has in the AHL that he would be a good candidate.. But I'll check it out again because what you said doesn't sound what I saw...

EDIT:

Ok I just saw on RDS what you may have seen and Renaud Lavoie didn't say the same thing on RIS this afternoon.. He said earlier what I wrote above. Now he said Scotty told Gainey about Lever "4 years ago" and implies that it was about the coaching job at the NHL level despite the fact that I saw him on RIS this afternoon say Bob was approched by Scotty to coach in Hamilton.

Why would Bob hire Carbo, then bring Jarvis out of Hamilton if Scotty told him 4 years ago that Lever was the perfect man to coach the Habs? If anything, Hamilton needed a coach if Jarvis was going to leave for the Habs no?

Something is fishy here...

Whatever the case, I think Lever can really help shut everyone up if he take some french classes

Fixed..

BTW Alain (le Baron) and Cherry both say stupid things, but I have to say that they make me laugh. it's kind of like Homer. His stupidity makes him funny

if scotty bowman himself came back to coach the habs, people would still find reasons to complain.

I never believe anything that's in the "French media". They always just make stuff up, so I doubt any of this is true.
