Once Kimberly skates with Justin are we going to get a "sloppy seconds" quip from Damon?

We will need him to with Arnott out.

Any guesses on how our lines are going to be?

My guess:

Sully - Fiddler - Dumont
Ward - Legward - Erat
Tootoo - Smithson - Pihlstrom
Jones - Nichol - Belak

Maybe swap Fiddler and Legwand, but you catch my drift.

The way they practiced yesterday I think this would be the case. I'd also give Jones the nod over VK based on practice yesterday. Sully centered Pihlstrom and Dumont, VK was in Pihlstrom's spot. I assume Leggy will move Sully back to the wing and Pihlstrom will drop back to his slot on the third line.

We need our d to step up in two ways tonight:

1. Move the puck forward effectively against the high pressure NYR style that Torts is pushing. We were awful against the Caps in getting it out, stretching them, getting it behind their D.

2. Score. We haven't generated sufficient offense from the D.

Well, I only saw the last 11 minutes. But that was enough. If we can't outplay this team, we are in trouble. I am not knocking the Rangers-- I'm saying these points should have meant a lot more to Nashville then NY.

well that was disheartening.

Why did they go Ellis these last two?

surprising amount of Rangers fans in Nash tonight, even though they've always been a good road draw. Anyways, you guys got a solid fan base down there is seems, real good to see. I follow the Preds a bit, well more the Admirals, any reason why Pihlstrom was scratched? Has he not been playing well or something? Thx

That ****ing sucked ... Why did Trotz decide to scratch Pihlstrom in favor of the softer/slower Koistinen ? ... Avery's line ate us alive tonight

Ellis played decent, but he couldn't make the big save. Koistinen while not costing us on the score sheet was his normal turnover self. You can tell he has good vision, the problem is, he sucks at executing. He takes shots into knee pads, waits too long to make the 'perfect' pass, etc. Some really odd bounces were happening all over the ice tonight. The first goal for the Rags was a perfect example of that.

Ah well, this is the team we have had all year. Its going to be a dog-fight to get into the playoffs. We may be on the outside looking in come April :/.

I would like to say that I really really REALLY like Ryan Callahan.

The Rangers outplayed us, and we looked flat all game. The Sjöström goal was a back-breaker. Avery didn't do anything outright stupid. Heck, Wade Redden played a good game. You know it's not your night when that happens.

The Rangers played with energy, like a team that knows its playoff hopes are on a razor's edge and refuse to go quietly into the night. We looked like we didn't really care one way or the other, even before Avery scored.

Jones probably needs to go back to Milwaukee. I've been an advocate of his but he just doesn't have it together yet.

Tootoo on the power play, in front of the net, okay. Tootoo on the power play TAKING FACEOFFS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Ellis was fine. He didn't steal this game for us but the team did him no favors.

Trotz's idea of putting our three best (healthy) offensive players together completely blew up in his face. Instead of making an effective first and ineffective second line (or vice versa), we put two ineffective lines out there. Legwand had his worst game in a long time. Perhaps we should give O'Reilly or Santorelli another look with a little more skill...

Smithson needs to just go away. I don't care if we have to get rid of Trotz to get rid of him, but I just don't see the need to continue to have Smithson out there.

We were dominated in the faceoff circle AGAIN tonight, and puck possession was a huge part of why the Rangers were able to largely control the tempo of the game. We really miss Bonk, more than I ever really imagined we would.

Boy, am I glad we didn't trade for Nik Antropov. He's a bum. No way he's worth that second rounder or that conditional. I mean, did you see the way he used his body to win battles and shield the puck down low? Good hockey players don't do stuff like that. Not once did I see him send a puck hard around the boards, and that's just not smart hockey. And that time he made Weber look like Nolan Yonkman? How is he still in the NHL? Plus he plays center AND wing. Multi-dimensional players died out in the 80s because they weren't useful. No idea what Sather was thinking picking that guy up.

I typed a gloom and doom post with lots of stats explaining how this was a must win game. I deleted it. I'll focus on how much better this team plays with Pekka in the net, much like the old days of "must see TV". I still have hope.

Well its frustrating, it would have helped to have Arnott and Rinne, not sure it would have made a difference. The puck made some strange bounces last night for both teams. But mainly we were just outplayed, and lost almost every battle for the puck. Oh well this is why I wished we picked up a Satan, yeah it may not have panned out but still he was just sitting there. And we have a million draft picks next year and couldn't spare one or two to pickup some help. And Poile let Peverley go for nothing and he is having a career year... oh well. We are still in it but we have been a poor road team. Hopefully we can get healthy and maybe we can push in somehow.

I know Ive said it a billion times. but we needed Antropov, Satan, someone, anyone.

ANOTHER game with scoring 1 lone pathetic sad little goal. I know that technically we scored 2, but technically the second was a fluke accident that NY kicked into their own net.

I also think the equipment manager needs to be evaluated. Hear me out on this one:

At least 5 games in a row a Pred falls down for no apparent reason. He will have the puck, it will be a crucial moment in the game, and his feet will just fly out from under him.

It started with Erat in OT. He was on the point with the puck, falls down for no reason, and the puck heads the other way and ends up in our net.

A few games ago it was Tootoo in his own zone, falls down without being touched, puck heads to the slot and into the net.

It has happened to Sully multiple times. Preds were wiping out all over Philly ice, and Arnott missed a chunk of the first period against the Caps with a skate problem.

And then last night no one touches Suter, he hits the deck, and NY flys down the ice to score the back breaker.

How does this keep happening?! Blade issue? Cale Hulse School of Skating? Snipers in the Sommet? It is costing us goals against and it is embarassing.

Magnets, it's always magnets.

We really need Arnott and Rinne back in here, I saw that Hamhuis threw some hip checks last night I haven't seen him do that in a while.

one of the flattest, most uninspired performances of the year in one of the most crucial games.

Bravo.

Also...why bother pulling the goalie if Wade Belak is going to be your extra attacker. Seriously.

I almost typed something similar to that but it loses its effect if you have to type it every couple of games.

Also why bother pulling the goalie for the extra attacker when half of your man advantage situations didnt result in a single shot on goal and even gave up a goal against. sad.

Or Smithson. Trotz should have been fired solely for that.

Tortorella was not happy with his team after the first period, and he sat Nik Zherdev (who turned the puck over in the neutral zone that led to the first goal) and gave an apparently powerful speech in the first intermission. It worked.

Hmm, sitting an established player in an effort to motivate your team? Preposterous!

was thinking the same thing

did Trotz use his timeout? it's like he already gave up when there was only 2 minutes left. pulling the goalie was just a formality.
