OT: Rangers GM comes to Pocklington's aid

Peter Pocklington had faded from my memory, but apparently he hadn't faded from the memory of the people arrested him.

It's pretty cool that Slats would do that to help a buddy, but you know people are going to look waaaaaaaaaay too deeply into this.

That's interesting. Not trying to read too much into it, but Glen always liked saving people, I mean, look at his signings over the years.

This is his next "reclamation" project. Pocklington for Voros? $1 million bail, Voros makes $1 million per year. Makes sense to me.

He's arrogant... I think it has more to due with him hoping to pick a winner, so he looks like a genius at the end.

Brian Leetch aside(for obvious reasons), people tend to speak very well of Slats away from the game for a reason.

Ironically I was watching "A Day That Changed The Game" on NHLN, and it showed Sather back in 1989, boy was he pissed about the Gretzky trade.

If you think about it, without his mistake of trading Wayne, do we end up with Messier? Do we end up with Graves? What about Beukeboom, or Lowe? That's why I personally love the idiot!

Yes, they all would have gotten traded.

Pocklington needed the money and made the deals because it gave him a huge infusion of cash on the Gretz and Messier deals.

If one was to believe Phil Esposito, he could have had Gretzky in 87 or 88 if then Rangers owners Paramount would have been willing to pony up 15 million.

Peter got his championships, but it didn't make him a rich enough man. With the escalating salaries, there's no way he could have kept that team together. He made the decisions that best benefitted his purse at the time.

Neither the Gretz deal or the Messier deals were sound hockey trades. They were goo financial trades for Edmonton

Who cares?

We know he's very loyal to his friends. Even to people he doesn't even know.

Just take a look at Redden's contract, Gomez or Drury.

Oh yeah, and glance at the gaping hole that we have to spend.

Hockey card reading Glen.

"Redden had some pretty good numbers 10 years ago, we should pay him $6.5 mil."

Would you put up his bail? Glen Sather did. With Pocklington's wife Eva in a California courthouse on the phone soliciting bail money from anyone who would listen, Sather listened. The New York Rangers GM ponied up the deed to some land in Minnesota, apparently valued at $1 million, and Pocklington was handed his get out of jail free card on Friday. Sather also asked Oilers owner Daryl Katz to arrange a lawyer for Pocklington and Katz obliged.

"Slats is one loyal *******," said a former Oiler employee who wished to remain anonymous. "When I read that this morning, I said you have got to be kidding
."

I give Slats credit for not turning his back to his former boss.People turn on you for a dime these days.

What's Sather doing with land in Minnesota? He already owns half of Edmonton
