Wade Redden to Edmonton

for Dustin Penner and Robert Nilsson

Penner has three more seasons at $4.25 million per.Nilsson has a $2 million cap # but is owed $4.5 million in actual salary.2 more seasons.

MacT can't stand either Penner or Nilsson.

Quote:
Doggedly, desperately staying in the Group II market to land Penner at five years and $21.25 million was foolish -- pure and simple.

That deal stands today, league-wide, as arguably the worst contract handed out in the last two seasons. And it's got three more years to run
.
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...pector_penner/

The Rangers make Penner the highest paid player in AHL history and Edmonton gets a player who will better off playing in a smaller market instead of in the bright lights on Broadway.Nilsson is a throw in to make the money work.

Redden has 8 teams on his NTC list.Would he accept a trade to Western Canada? Why wouldn't he?

Bad contracts for bad contract.

Can you imagine John Tortorella coaching Penner?

dont think it works with edmonton. They have souray, vish, gilbert already making pretty big money. Grebeshkov and Smid need raises. Redden's contract would be too big of a burden, even with the savings up front.

Honestly, i think Redden will eventually end up in Hartford, or on re-entry waivers.

Edmonton isnt really a smaller market. All Edmonton has is hockey, there is no NBA, MLB, NFL nothing like that. Living in Edmonton, all you hear is Oilers talk.

Plus Redden would suck regardless of where he plays.

edmonton is a small market. In fact, edmonton and ottawa are two of the smallest markets in the league. If these markets weren't full of hockey-crazed canadian fans, they would fold (as both nearly did in recent years).

There's nothing New York could add that would make Edmonton want to take on Redden and that mess of a contract.

Firstly, there's no proof that MacT hates Nilsson and Penner. Secondly, MacT probably won't even be coach next season weather they make the playoffs or not. That point is moot.

Ignoring team needs, Edmonton says hell no. Penner's contract is terrible, but Redden's is worse. At least Penner's ends 2 years sooner. We aren't adding Nilsson to the deal (he may not be great, but he doesn't have negative value like the other 2).

When you factor in Souray, Visnovsky and Gilbert and Staios' contracts, not to mention raises for Grebs and Smid needing raises, it looks even worse.

what about penner, staios and schremp for redden and say a prospect like mike sauer or dane byers?
From whats been put out in the media you guys have given up at schremp, and new york seems to be the nhl recovery home, sauer/byers can be pretty solid players in a few years. Reddens contract sucks no kidding, but i think this is more favorable for EDM, or am i wrong?

I don't actually think the value is bad, just like already mentioned we'd have 4 huge D contracts. Wouldn't make much sense

Souray, Vishnovsky, Gilbert, Redden, Grebeshkov, Smid/Staios/whoever.

That's one damn lethal offensive core of defenceman, but you're going to need it with pucks flying in your net all the time because as a whole they can't play d.

Yes, you'd be wrong. We're a fairly young team, and most of the guys we'll be building around will be needing contracts at some point while Redden's albatross is still on the books, which could hinder us re-signing them. Honestly, the only reason Edmonton would be willing to take on Redden would be to get Staal or Lundqvist. Since I doubt the Rangers would be willing to give up either player, I don't see there being any workable deal with Edmonton taking on Redden.

Really?

To NY: Dustin Penner + Robert Nilsson
To Edm: Redden + Sanguinetti + 1st

Yea yea.. I know this would never happen..

But if this was proposed, would you still say decline?

Redden's contract is worse than Penner's

NYR is going to have to overpay a team to convince them to take Redden's contract.

Redden will play the last 4 seasons of his contract in Hartford. He can get a really good deal on a home in Greenwich or Stamford these days.

Penner is a fat ****.Kevin Lowe ruined his friendship with Brian Burke over Dustin Penne.Let Katz eat the remainder of Penne's contract.I just thought after reading the thoughts of two Oilers management cronies-Jim Matheson and Mark Spector-that Edmonton might look to get something for Penne instead paying $4.25 million to do nothing or instead of having to buyout Penner and take six cap hits of $1.4 million each.Any deal they make is not a perfect deal.

i'm a Rangers fan and I have already realized that Redden will be there for a while.

Their is no chance in freaking hell anyone is going to take him so they have to eat the freaking deal and just let him play.

The hope is that Sanguinetti comes in next year and anchors the point on the D for cheap. Del Zotto is not far behind

They can also use Sauer and Potter as the 6th and 7th D

Rozsival will be moved to clear cap space at the draft because he has value even at 5 million. A team way under like Atlanta would pick him up for a pick and maybe some salary back too

What is this, a trade of Bad CONTRACT. Having said that, the NY have a lot of over paid players. What a mess

It's better than than buying out Redden with a cap hit of 10 years at $2.2 million...
