Prospect Hurt
As per Mike Boone @
http://habsinsideout.com/main/17363
Alexei Yemelin's season is over.
The highly-touted Russian
defenceman, a second-round draft choice of the Canadiens in 2004, was
pounded out by giant Alexander Svitov in a Russian league playoff game
on Saturday night.
As reported by Marc De Foy of
Ruefrontenac.com, Yemelin, who plays for AK Bars Kazan, suffered a
broken nose, a mild concusiion and a left eye injury that will require
surgery.
Svitov – a 6'4", 230-pound behemoth selected third
overall by Tampa Bay, behind Ilya Kovalchuk and Jason Spezza, in the
2001 draft – was suspended for four games by the KHL.
Playing without Svitov, Avangard Omsk was eliminated by AK Bars Kazan last night. Oleg Petrov – yes, THAT Oleg Petrov – scored the winning goal in OT.

I hope that keeps Russian teams away from him...so we can put our hands on him.

Too bad since his team came from behind to win in OT yesterday to advance to the next round.
It would have been his 2nd RSL/KHL championship series to play in as he played against Markov's team when Dynamo won in '05.

He'd fit in perfectly in Montreal. Nice and soft, maybe Tom the Bomb should teach him how to fight?
Here's the Rue Frontenac link, which is a bit more in depth, in french

I sure as hell would not call him soft. Interesting that he might very well be able to be signed this summer. Question is, is he willing to spend some time in the minors? Should be a wild summer for the Habs no matter what.

You do have to wonder how a beating like that might affect his playing. Will he start shying away from contact etc?
I'd be interested in knowing more about it, was he sucker punched or something? Those are pretty bad injuries for just a straight up hockey fight.

This is the fight...looks pretty one sided. Svitov is massive and can throw them pretty good for a Russian.

The links work now.
This is another Svitov beat down.

So . . .
1. Svitov likes fighting guys alot smaller than him
2. he punches guys when they're down
ergo
Svitov is a major *********
I'd like to see him take on someone his own size

I love how they carry him off with a blanket!!! I wonder if the doctor with the butcher jacket is going to perform the eye surgery?

1. He did take on Nathan Perrot and did alright, but yes i agree he usually fights people smaller, but most people generally are smaller then him
2. Again I agree thats totally uncalled for, Im pretty sure thats how emelin got the eye injury, but where the hell were the refs? One ref was just watching him pound him on the ice.

Referees in the KHL are really bad !
As for Emelin, I dunno if he is still a prospect. He was like the number 6 D-man on his team, playing under 15 minutes a game, and got a couple of points in over 40 games.
If he comes over, he still would have to play in Hamilton for a while to adjust to NA life and learn English.
I would take Svitov to play on our 4th line with Laraque and Stewart. Scary !!!!

The title of the post on Habs Inside/Out is "Prospect Mugged" I thought that he was actually mugged until I read the article.
Very misleading Boone

Does this mean he'll sign for sure? He's passed the first test of becoming a Hab, being injured.

I heard the Bruins wanted to trade for him, his résumé would secure him a spot on the first line.

Maybe he'll wan't to come to the NHL now, seeing as how the KHL is too rough.
