Jori Lehtera loaned to Peoria

http://www.jatkoaika.com/smliiga.php...utiset&id=9406

I know it is in Finnish but it basically says Jori Lehtera has been loaned by his Finnish team to finish the season in Peoria, the Blues AHL affiliate. Lehtera has 1 year remaining on his contract with his Finnish team, and the Blues are currently searching for an out clause. Peoria currently sits in a tie for the 8th playoff spot in the West.

Basically what were hearing about Lehtera is that he is similar to Perron. Very skilled, and a little cocky, but needs to put it all together. A boom or bust prospect if you will.

Go Blues!

Did he somehow make it onto the clear day roster or will sneaking in under the "emergency" rule to get him playing time for as long as possible?

Would he be eligible to appear in the playoffs for them?

Hopefully Dallas can do the same with Tom Wandell, if they need him.

Not sure if it's the same situation contractually, but sounds similar.

I'm not sure if he is eligible. I'm not too familiar with those rules, but Peoria could really use him to make a hold that final playoff spot, and the Blues have to be excited to get him playing in N.A. earlier than anticipated.

I know that the Islanders brought Fingren for Sweden to finish to season with Bridgeport. He isn't on the clear day roster though.

and Figren played in his first AHL game last night

fwiw, the Figren and Wandell's situations sound different than this one; both Figren and Wandell were under contract with their NHL clubs and were assigned to their European clubs; it doesn't sound like Lehtera was signed to an NHL contract for the 08-09 season

That is great to hear. He's a prospect that REALLY intrigues me. Now I have to take a drive to Peoria.

They'll sign him to a PTO contract, since he's technically a "loan." As long as he's on the PTO, he can play in the playoffs...

This is great news.

Hopefully he'll like it in Peoria and sign with the Blues

I believe he's eligible on an ATO, but would not be on a PTO unless it's on an emergency basis, IIRC.

No NHL contract = no NHL recall.

Old news, came out like 3 days ago

Anyways Lehtera is one of my favourite promising players in the SM-League. He is the best player on his team and scored 9 pts in 3 playoff games.

Natural playmaker, has size and is has very good attitude. Could improve his scoring touch abit, but we'll see.

Oh and yeah, he is not eligible to join the Blues. The contract says that he can not play for NHL team.

Actually that was 9 points in 3 playout games. He finished 4th in the league in assists and 13th in scoring.

A question for the contract/cap experts around here (I_B, I'm looking in your general direction):

Is it true that NHL contracts trump European ones, as long as there is a transfer agreement between the NHL and the country in which the contract was signed?

What I'm getting at is, if Lehtera plays impressively enough on his ATO, and the Blues decided to offer him an NHL contract (with a two-way provision so he could be assigned to Peoria), would that supersede the time remaining on his contract with Tappara?

Thanks,

P_B

I see former NHLers Ville Nieminen and Janne Ojanen are on the team Lehtera played for in Finland. Lehtera is a player that could turn into quite a steal for the Blues. Its scary how deep their prospect system is, and it should only get better this summer.
