The Tampa Bay chapter of the Professional Hockey Writer's Association nominated defenseman Cory Murphy for the Bill Masterton Trophy, awarded each year to the NHL player who "best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey."
Undrafted out of Colgate University, Murphy spent seven years playing in Europe before earning his first NHL contract with Florida before the 2007-08 season. But shoulder injuries limited his playing time with the Panthers.
He was placed on waivers by Florida twice this season before Tampa Bay claimed him on re-entry waivers in January. By March, Murphy was logging 25 minutes a night and quarterbacking the power play until a broken foot sidelined him.
The league has announced the Northeast and Atlantic nominees and will release those from the Southeast Division today. The Masterton Trophy winner will be announced at the NHL Awards show in Las Vegas on June 18.

i think Wishart will need at least 1 more year to really fill out and be ready. he is a guy i dont want them to rush just for the sake of our poor defense. I think Lashoff will play though.
