If he does walk away ...

I cry at the notion that we could have had Vinny

Need's more Hudler.....

Stuart's redundant because we already have a player like him in Mitchell. Howard isnt needed since we have Schneider too.

So true.

Detroit tho, if they can make some room for a 1 year contract. Man detroit would be scary.

Here's what I think is happening. Most likely...

A) With all the recent talks around the Canucks Room about 'taking less money'. Luongo's agent told him to keep his trapper shut (I mean his mouth) about wanting to stay or taking less money.

B) He could be pressuring management to go and try and win next year. He wants to win now and he wants to know Management is willing to go for it. Ball is in your court Gillis.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if he didn't re-sign here. We have Cory Schneider and while he may not ever be as good as Luongo he certainly isn't a bad option. Luongo wants to win the cup and any team that gives him the best chance to do that will be the team that probably gets him. Vancouver isn't ruled out or anything. We have to go far in the playoffs this year and the next to show him that we can be a contender and if we do that then I see him signing here but if we fail to do that then I don't know if he'd stick around. If he can't wait for the Canucks and try to be the piece of the puzzle to help make this team a true contender then that's just the kind of guy he is. Like I said, it would be hard to lose him but it wouldn't be the end of the world and in the long run we'd be fine without him.

I'll attempt to make my post crystal clear for those of you who need the extra help.

He wants to win a cup.

He wants/wanted to play for Montreal.

Two separate desires. Get it?

I actually heard rumors (not sure from where, trying to locate where I got the info from) But Luongo stating that once his contract in Van is up,he wants to go back to Fla. The reason being is that his family still lives down here. He has a home, and really did enjoy playing here, so it might be a possibility.

Lidstrom retires, Wings sign Luongo. Beauteous.

One thing to be considered here is that the cap is reportedly going to be several million less when Luongo becomes a FA. So that might force Luongo to take a paycut. Its highly unlikely that a team that can afford to overpay Luongo on the free market is the type of team that Luongo's going to want to sign with, although there may be exceptions.

Hossa may have set a precedent. If Luongo finds the team that he thinks has a best shot at the cup, and they can only afford him on a 1 year contract at a slight paycut, he may very well take it.

That can be said for about 27 of the league's 30 teams. Why Montreal is always the team talked about is beyond me. Probably a result of the idiots around here just randomly slagging the Habs for no good reason.

Sounds exactly like what you would expect him to say, if Vancouver is committed to winning he will be here, if he feels they are going backwards he will leave. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I respect the honesty. He didn't give the stereotypical hockey player answer. He didn't say he wouldn't sign with the Canucks...just didn't make out to be all flowers and rainbows either. Ryan Smyth did the same thing and I liked it.

Pronger did the exact opposite and that was my biggest issue with him. You want to leave? Fine. It's none of my business why. Just don't go hide in Mexico, tell the team through the media and then come back and play the victim....I seriously am over it. This just reminded me of that summer.

Or golfing. He should have enough practice by now.

Him and Sundin go fishing together in sweeden while the rest of the NHL wonders if either will be back for another season.
