Koivu goes down against Edmonton...will it ever end??
From the NHL.com recap
Quote:
Notes: Minnesota's Mikko Koivu was pulled down by Edmonton's Ales Kotalik in the first period and suffered a knee injury. He left the team bench in the second period and did not return. ... The Wild coach did not sound optimistic after the game. "Losing him, it's a huge loss for our team," Lemaire said. "I'm waiting for more news. More good news." ... The Oilers are 0-8-2 in their past 10 visits to St. Paul. ... Minnesota is in a stretch of playing 14 of 17 games on the road. On Tuesday, the Wild travel to New York as they begin a four-game trek to visit the Rangers, Islanders, Flames and Oilers.
Gaborik might be able to replace Koivu's offense, but there are so many other intangibles that Koivu brings.
Any news on Zidlicky? I missed whatever caused him to miss today's game.

So its not actually listed, which means he's probably being evaluated today sometime I'm sure.

Absent from practice, by the way, was defenseman Marek Zidlicky. He’s listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury, according to a team spokesman. We’ll hope for an update before the game tomorrow.
Russo is doing the Live Chat today at 1430CDT, get on there and ask em
UPDATE: Stensaas here for a late-afternoon check-in. Assistant GM Tom Lynn briefed the media on Mikko Koivu’s knee situation early this afternoon. No official diagnosis was revealed. Instead Lynn said the team will wait a few days for a timetable. Koivu did have an MRI today and saw team doctors.
“They’ll have a better idea after four days,” Lynn said, adding that Koivu’s time away from the team could be “as little as seven days if everything goes well, or as long as a of couple weeks.”
The only thing we know for sure is that Koivu is not traveling with the team out East. So he is for sure out vs. the Rangers and Islanders. And I would bet he’s a no-go for the games this weekend in Calgary and Edmonton.
So your centers for now: Belanger, Sheppard, Fritsche and Olvecky.
Also on the injury front, Derek Boogaard will not make the trip to New York, either, because of an upper-body injury. Brent Burns will stay back, too, still recovering from a concussion. Asked today about Burns, Lynn said he will do nothing until he’s asymptomatic.
Defenseman Marek Zidlicky, who missed Sunday’s game with a lower body injury, was in at practice today and should return tomorrow night at MSG.
Russo - fresh off his NHL Live spot - will be there for all the action.
So Burns/Koivu/Boogaard are OUT for the road trip Zidlicky should be back in
Oh lord, this sucks for Minny. Gaborik isn't fit enough to step up big time. I myself am really interested what's gonna happen during wild nyr game. I will be watching Marian closely. I hope for his best!
