Why did Shanahan sit out the last game?

The guy was in 18 fights this year, does anyone honestly believe he won't stick up for his teammates?
I don't doubt that he can. I've been waiting to see him do it though. To this point, he's provided a warm body on the 3rd/4th line.

He didn't practice Saturday and Sutter listed it as "maintenance" then afterwards Shanahan was receiving treatment. Otherwise, the only term I saw was "undisclosed."

Ohhh....lol. Gotcha guys. I thought it was something on the personality/demeanor level. Carry on with the hating, and I'll do the same.

From a few minutes ago...

Brendan Shanahan said his decision to sit out Sunday's game in Boston was made in a discussion with coach Brent Sutter and he was ready to return Monday night in Philadelphia against the Flyers.

"Brent has looked at the schedule and identified certain times to rest," Shanahan told me. "Since things are going well (for the team), he wanted to give me a day off. Nothing unusual."

No significant injury?

"Nothing more than any other guy on the team," Shanahan said. "There might be another (day off) later in the season."

I believe his presence and 10-11 minutes of responsible ice time is worth a little more than that, but I can understand how you'd be unimpressed thus far. There's zero doubt in my mind that he's going to stick up for his teammates when it's time. That's the very last thing I'd worry about with him.

There was a little play in the last home game against Buffalo, where Dominic Moore was skating towards Giroux and Carcillo cut him off. When you're on the ice, you can see when a guy is trying to go at one of your teammates and Carcillo did the right thing. Very subtle but has the desired effect.

A loss here ends any hope of a division title. Must win, and probably in regulation.

With the way Carcillo's made TV during the games, which is by simply unnecessary yapping, yes, I have reason to believe he wouldn't stick up for his teammates. Everything physical he's done to this point has been merely because he wants to do it. 18 fights doesn't mean anything.

Does that hockey kid in the street of the TSN Olympic commercial say "something real pig is going to happen"?

Yeah me too, it's pretty solid and so much less expensive than Center Ice.

Admittedly my experience has been 5 minutes, but so far, it's basically Center Ice quality for 1/3 of the price.
